Alleyn’s secondary school query

Starting to think of secondary schools as my Ds will be in year 5 in September. We as a family are keen to explore co-Ed schools aswell as single sex schools.
Managable travel schools on the list are Emanuel, Alleyn’s as others are to far to travel.

I know Alleyn’s has a strong arts and drama department but Is Alleyn’s only suited for kids that are strong in drama and arts? Is there space for a child that isn’t doing lamda and music etc?

Emanuel strikes me as a more sporty school with rowing etc.

thank you!

Visit both schools’ open days with child and ask questions.

I don't have personal experience as a parent of either but would say that:

(a) the semi-USP of both schools, I suppose the main thing about them other than being private, is that they're co-ed;
(b) the main difference between them is academics, with Alleyn's being a lot stronger [though the gap isn't what it was; it's closed a bit]; and
(c) Emmanuel is certainly strong in drama & 'performing arts' - that's its reputation and I did once go to an open day there, you could instantly tell that the theatre department was hugely well resourced.

Thank you all. Yes looking at the league table Alleyn’s always out performs but the gap is getting smaller between the two schools.

i will be booking tours to view both of them and guess you get a feel of the school then.

my only concern was that Alleyn’s was a bit drama heavy if you are not into drama and not doing lamda lessons etc but I guess there is space for everyone at both schools and each kid will find their interest. I think all the schools have a great drama departments as Dulwich college also has a strong department as well have heard but then everyone always comments about the sport facilities etc

Plenty of music, sport, dance and academics alongside the drama and art. In fact, drama and art are the things my DC doesn’t do there.

@365sleepstogothats fab news that there is something for everyone and won’t be an outsider or not like it if you not into drama etc
