Hi
my daughter has issues with her legs and feet and has worn trainers all the way through primary but we need school shoes for year 7 in September. Any suggestion on supportive comfy shoes but that will let her fit in ?

My dd wore Clark’s Hamble oaks brogues until her feel stopped growing and then she wore Doctor Marten shoes.

Mine has worn Doc Martens shoes since primary and they’re always really good.

Clark’s and start rite both have shoes more trainer-like (but still black leather school shoes) in the boys section. A lot of the girls in dds year (current y7) wear them. If your dd has a long walk to/from school it’s definately worth focussing on comfort.

yeh it’s really rough she has right sided hemiplegia and struggles with walking a lot. She is 100 percent more comfy in trainers. I will have a look thank you

I looked at these but was worried about comfort ? Are they comfy ?

email the school and tell them she will be wearing trainers due to her medical condition.

get plain black unbranded trainers or uncool ones.

I agree with this.
If there's a medical need, then they should agree to plain black trainers (and provide her with a card to show to any teacher that tries to tell her off).

I found doc martins rubbed my feet if I wore them all day - but they might be better now.
If she’s comfy in trainers, I agree with pp, school should be told she needs trainers for health reasons.

Vivienne1000 · 12/07/2025 18:52

Based on medical grounds, how about black Nike trainers? A lot of our pupils wear them - we allow them as uniform

drspouse · 12/07/2025 18:55

My DD has had to wear black trainers for primary school and we got Nike, they are leather as most of the other ones we found were fabric or plastic.
But we are going to get proper shoes now she's off to Y7 as well!

FoxRedPuppy · 12/07/2025 18:56

My DS school wouldn’t allow black trainers or trainer like shoes. Even with medical evidence. Some schools are weird dictatorships about uniform .

user2848502016 · 12/07/2025 18:57

Surely she’d be allowed plain black trainers as there’s a medical need?
My DD’s school allows them anyway so she wears either black Nike trainers or Dr Martens

Ineedmorewine03 · 12/07/2025 18:59

So she is going to a private Sen school although it’s not very Sen it’s like I suppose an “ inbetween “ school
their uniform sounds rather strict and specifically says no trainers which I’m guessing means no
I have emailed but have not heard back yet.

Yes she says they are and she will say if they’re not lol. I have DM boots and they are very comfy.
