Winchester College bursary to Music Scholarship or Music Exhibition beneficiaries

My DS has been admitted to Winchester College. However, he is not awarded any bursary, which is needed. If he applies for and receives a music scholarship or music exhibition, will this allow us to reapply for a bursary at the school? What happens if a parent pays the deposit but is unable to sustain the fee payment at the point of entry?

As far as I understand bursary’s at Winchester are means tested and not dependent on scholarship. So any child who gets in can apply and bursary’s are (financially) needs based.

There is a line in the bursary guidance something like ‘child who would benefit from a Winchester education’ which always struck me as there way of saying ‘we will assess your financial needs and if you need bursary support and your child is top of the list (best and brightest) then you may get one’. They will probably have taken factors like musical potential into this offer assuming your school and child make them aware of it.

The best advice I would offer would be talk to the school honestly about your situation, we found them to be very helpful.

Did you apply for a bursary at the time of applying for a place?

Surely you would have applied for the music scholarship earlier, as there will be tests etc?
