Next thread. 10 days of exams to go. Looks like we’re all heading into a busy week this week - good luck!

DC Geography teacher sent some AQA paper 3 tips. DC is pretty independent so haven't actually followed the advice but hope it helps someone.

The best support you can give is to ask your child about the booklet. For example:

  • What is energy security?
  • What do the graphs / maps on pages 2 and 3 show?
  • Should the tidal energy project go ahead? Why or why not?
The more familiar they are with the booklet, the easier the exam questions will be!
NotDonna · 10/06/2025 07:31

It’s interesting to read that both edexcel IGCSE and AQA biology lacked many human biology topics and both with a strong focus on plants and ecology.

Good luck to everyone doing Spanish this morning. This is one of DDs strong subjects so keeping fingers crossed it goes well.

frozendaisy · 10/06/2025 07:33

Ratty said he knows a lot about peat bogs because they regularly pull perfect preserved mummies out of them! Look this one still has the rope attached from when he was hung. (Photo on phone)

You didn’t mention mummies in the exam did you?
‘course not

I am not so sure he definitely wanted to. Perhaps it would give the marker a nice surprise

This is Ratty’s absolute worse.
He reached new heights of little revision, pampered prince, grumpy teen yesterday.

So it will be nice to get back to “you can’t say maths doesn’t matter” revision later.

Sunnyafternooning · 10/06/2025 07:41

Letting Dc have a mini lie in till 830 today.

Then piling in with more civil rights and Vietnam.

Trying to help him work out where he should focus his revision is hard. Q3 on the edexcel has 4 parts on one theme with a big 16 marker for the last part. Apparently they previously used to alternate between civil rights and Vietnam in turn… but for the last 4 years it’s been civil rights every year! He was talking to some year 12s who said last year they were stung…. They were all sure, having previously alternated, but having 3 years on CR they’d swap back to Vietnam… but they didn’t… so no idea if it’s going to be 5 years of CR or this is the year it swaps back to Vietnam… argh!

DataColour · 10/06/2025 07:44

@LikeABat thanks for those Geography 3 tips, will pass that on to DS!
Yesterday DH and DS were looking at his field work and the past paper questions based on known fieldwork and they are the same every year, so just having answers prepared for those questions will be good revision.

Mayfield park is very familiar to me! A stone's throw from my workplace.

A day of maths revision here. Apparently they got given a predicted maths paper 3 AQA at the end of their English exam last week and told to practice it for preparation. And then some FM prep.

Good luck to those sitting Spanish!

NotDonna · 10/06/2025 07:48

I’ve 3 DDs (daughters not bra size!) and if the girls are D+ then the boob tape is THE best stuff to give support. The ‘magic bras’ that look like rabbits are very good.

SilverSnaffles · 10/06/2025 07:49

Dd has History (Russia) this afternoon, Maths 3 tomorrow, Chemistry on Friday then Music and Physics on Monday.

She is awake, but not out of bed, after asking dh to wake her at 6, before he left for work. I’ll go up again at 8.00, as although she’s not worried about History, I know she wanted to get some revision in this morning, before meeting a friend to walk to the school’s pre-exam session together.

Had to laugh at all the gravity defying prom bra stories. Dd’s ended up costing more than her dress, which admittedly was an absolute bargain from Vinted. The poor girl has inherited the curse of the small-back, large-cup-size from me, but was determined to have a strapless dress. All her friends have stick-on bras, but there was just no way that was ever going to work for her. All the ladies in our family need full on scaffolding for adequate support.

Xmasfairy86 · 10/06/2025 07:51

DD has just thrown up 🤦🏽‍♀️

what does one do in this situation?! She is due to sit history this afternoon, and seems ok post vomit 🤷🏼‍♀️

google seems to say the sit it unless they physically can’t?!

DataColour · 10/06/2025 07:53

@Xmasfairy86 oh no! Does she seem otherwise unwell? Could it be nerves? DS spends most exam mornings on the toilet with an upset tummy due to nerves.

NotDonna · 10/06/2025 07:53

@SilverSnaffles DD2 is 26G and for any prom type backless strapless number she wears the stick on rabbits or boob tape. Getting bras to fit her is impossible. Even bravissimo struggle! It’s her most expensive clothing item by far.

labradorservant · 10/06/2025 07:54

@Xmasfairy86contact exams office ASAP and they’ll advise. They’ll want you to try and sit it and figure out the best way!

Oh no. Does she feel better? DD3 does this every couple of months or so but feels great afterwards (very odd). Maybe call the exam officer first thing after seeing how she feels over the next hour?

She seems fine, and after vomiting said ‘well at least it’s an afternoon exam’ 😂

@labradorservant do i just phone the school and ask to speak to the exam office?

Oh bloody hell! I’m sorry to hear that….😾.. It may be false memory, but I seem to remember a pp about a DC who took one exam in a small room, with a basket to be sick in? And they had to ask for special consideration? I’m so sorry, I’m not sure what to do. I would contact the school exam officer asap.

GOOD LUCK @Xmasfairy86DD 🤞 🤗… I hope it’s “ just nerves” and “all out now..”… 🙄

labradorservant · 10/06/2025 08:00

@Xmasfairy86yes, but maybe wait to a bit after the morning exams start. It’s a bit manic from 8am until they get going! Or send an email now, say you appreciate they are busy and say you’ll call at 9ish.

Xmasfairy86 · 10/06/2025 08:02

She’s meant to be in school from 8:30 so I’ll call after that to let them know she will be in at break time and ask for a call back when appropriate

labradorservant · 10/06/2025 08:03

@Xmasfairy86you should hopefully have been given the direct email before exams started in the what we ‘expect from pupils’ ie no cheating email.

Buena Suerte, Ratty!! 🤞🙏 🍀!

I hope he got his grumpy ass teen 💩 out of his system yesterday, Spanish out the way, and comes home all positive for an afternoon of maths revision! Joyous! ( 🤷‍♀️😈🙄…. Might happen?!! )… good luck!!!! 🤗

Ratty sounds like my kind of person!! 😈😹!

I bloody hope he DiD mention mummies in there! If I was an examiner, it’d make my day! ( couple of cheeky, Bertie to us marks….,,🙄🙄🙄!) 😹

Sisublondie · 10/06/2025 08:08

Buena Suerte, Spanish 🇪🇸 DC!!! Not long to go, only a few sleeps left for many!! Almost there!!!! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Sisublondie · 10/06/2025 08:09

@frozendaisy.. damn phone…* “bertie bonus” marks! 🙄

NotDonna · 10/06/2025 08:10

I’m another hoping that Ratty mentioned the peat bog mummies - surely that’s the most fascinating thing about peat bogs? Still don’t see how it’s biology but…
