Next thread. 10 days of exams to go. Looks like we’re all heading into a busy week this week - good luck!

GoodMoodRatty is back.
AQA single higher, thinks the revision I "made" him do was worth at least a grade for this paper so well done "us"!
He seems ok for this, nothing too extreme either way.

He is out of uniform, in front of pixels, might suggest we all walk half way to brother's school at home time and meet him in the pub garden. See how the mood goes.

So a nice chill sunny Friday.

(Introduced the idea he might want to read through some physics as it's his hobby apparently - "it's still an exam" - will leave it a couple of hours)

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 13/06/2025 11:24

AQA Combined higher chemistry DC reports questions on moles which they weren't expecting, can't really do and didn't appear on either of the practice papers they did yesterday.
So overall went ok but nowhere near as good as the practice papers. Last full week done and I think DC and I are feeling very relieved it's nearing the end!

BobBobBobbing · 13/06/2025 11:26

Thank you to whoever mentioned bioleaching- DD had never heard of it before last night and there was a question on it! She seemed positive about Chem today.

3 left to do!

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 13/06/2025 11:32

Also for AQA combined higher nothing on water treatment which DC was primed for. Sorry to hear about upset children, due to grade boundaries they can drop quite a few marks and still do well.

Bananafofana · 13/06/2025 11:43

I have a very upset aqa higher triple science chem dc. TERRIBLE PAPER is all I can get and they liked p1.

rosemarble · 13/06/2025 11:51

The 6th form are NOT offering the A level he chose.
I've asked them why they did not communicate this with DS and (in response to their rather patronising info about what Eng Lang and Lit is) told them that DS had looked at many different courses at different colleges and chosen this one because they offered Lang only.

It will be fine - tbh I wanted him to move to a different 6th form (this one is attached to the school he's at), so maybe this will be the catalyst. It's just not a great time to be trying to make these choices.

TeenToTwenties · 13/06/2025 11:55

@rosemarble That is poor if they have removed it without saying.

I'm guessing maybe insufficient interest?

Itchybritches · 13/06/2025 11:55

Thanks for your words of support everyone. It’s so hard on them and it has really knocked her confidence. She’s doing combined as there wasn’t an option for triple with her options. She’s been a solid 8/9 student since she started and has worked so hard overcoming her challenges with dyslexia, today’s paper has left her feeling like the last two years have been a waste.

mojobrojo · 13/06/2025 11:56

AQA single higher here - was 'fine' apparently. Said his friends thought it was horrid but he's not sure how much they revised. He said he's glad I 'bullied' him into looking at condensation polymerisation yesterday and he was pleased there was only one 6 marker that required proper writing. The 5 markers were calculation based, which he likes because he's mr mathematics. One more down... two to go...

rosemarble · 13/06/2025 11:57

TeenToTwenties · 13/06/2025 11:55

Yes, that's what they've said, and of course I understand that, but it's not on to just withdraw a course they've accepted someone on w/o even telling them.

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 13/06/2025 11:58

@Itchybritches combined might be a blessing if it's one bad paper. DD2 completely messed up chem in the mocks -did well on physics and biology. Overall 8-8 (but chem was a 5 or something!)... one paper is only a sixth of the mark.

@rosemarble Annoying. Crap behaviour of the school not to communicate this. So sorry!

BellaI · 13/06/2025 12:33

@Itchybritches sorry to hear your DD is upset. Hopefully she won’t have done as badly as she thinks.
DD seems happy with Edexcel higher and that we now only have one science paper left forever! The teaching of the sciences has been fairly patchy and the lessons often missed due to medical appointments so I’ve no idea how much of the curriculum she will have taken in. Just looking for solid passes.

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 13/06/2025 12:51

Absolutely @Itchybritches once she's had a rest tell her to revise the heck out of physics paper 2 & she should still be in the game.

SB1971 · 13/06/2025 12:56

AQA combined higher Chem for DS today-said it went well which is good. Sciences have been very hit and miss results wise up to now-varied between a 3 and a 7.
He has gone to play golf with some pals now-no revision today now I reckon -the end is in sight!
Hope everyone else is having a chill in the sun-am perspiring in front of the laptop

ImTerriblySorry · 13/06/2025 13:29

Aqa Higher Chem good although DC not sure about some of the marks on q.7 re amino acids and polymers.

Timetochangeagaint · 13/06/2025 13:40

For once DS happy about Chemistry - he says in the edexcel higher exam two of the 6 markers weren’t really about Chemistry and he wrote loads - hoping he’s not missed the point . We’ve worked out he now has less than 5 hours of exams to go . Happy weekend to all , hope the young people all recharge for the last push

Same comments here about moles. And something about a question on polymers being really hard.

He said it was nowhere near as good as P1 and harder than the practice papers he’d done. He’d got 75%+ on those so we were hoping this would go well. He thinks 65% ish on this. He said he answered stuff but knows he’s dropped marks. But 65% is the stuff you know you’ve got wrong… I’m sure there are other bits he thinks were right but weren’t.

I’m hoping P1 means that it’ll balance out and he manages at least a 7 overall.

He’s having the afternoon off and stating physics revision tomorrow.

That was me! Yes first question I asked DD. Was on gold but same theory applied. She said paper was good. 6 marker was on atmospheric gases since the volcanoes. That’s all I know.
Not seen her as she’s gone to BF house.
AQA higher combined!

Mine said the same, they were geography and biology apparently but she was pleased with them too( but thought the paper overall was tricky)

DS' English teacher recommended Chat GPT

It was a lightbulb moment for us 🤣

DS's school sent out an email a month or so ago to say they strongly recommend students do not use AI such as Chat GPT as the quotes can often be wrong / fictitious. it was particularly in relation to a play called Leave Taking.

DS wasn't using it thankfully.

@rosemarble… oh, bloody hell, what unnecessary stress for you! I’m so, so sorry. As @frozendaisysays, there could be a myriad of reasons why their website is saying that, so 🤞it’s something that will be sorted after today..🤞 🤗

@Libre2.. Oh, how I feel for you all and your lovely DS. Huge 🤞🙏 🍀 for calm for him, this morning, to get safely there, to school with your friend, and into the exam hall. I hope there are less distractions than yesterday, and that he can focus. Huge 🤗, too…

GOOD 🍀 Chem peeps!!! Long wanted Last Day at Shitsville for DS!! Aside from any bully stragglers, none of which are in his small room for exams anyway, he may briefly see at Physics, I hope 🤞and pray 🙏 his Chemistry goes calmly, he can focus, and the dreaded “shirt signing” and Leavers Assembly goes without a final bullying, and that he never sees these asshole turds 💩 every again! 🤞🙏🤞🤩 🥳!!

….keep calm, all!! We are nearly there!! 🍀 💖 🍀

@Sisublondie is your DS going to completely different sixth form / college to the bullies? fingers crossed he doesn't see them again.

Eccle80 · 13/06/2025 14:23

AQA higher single here, he said it went pretty well, there was a tough question on polymerisation but he thought everyone struggled with that

ThisPerkySloth2 · 13/06/2025 14:32

DS said AQA single higher chemistry was "fine" and when discussed with friends they felt the same. that is all I got.

Physics, Spanish and DT left.

DD finished last A level exam today so that's one DC done and one to go and then we are all done!!!!

Looking forward to a good rest till results days then it'll be all Universities and Sixth Form stuff to contend with.

Big decisions. Big changes. Momentous year!

Only one paper to go for my DS - physics on Monday.
I’d like to get him a small gift to mark the end of his exams—he’s done well. Are you getting something for your DC, if you don’t mind me asking?

We haven’t heard how Chemistry has gone yet, and like you, only Physics on Monday to go. We shall be giving out daughter some money to enjoy the summer with, but knowing her, she’ll just save it. 🙄😂
