Next thread. 10 days of exams to go. Looks like we’re all heading into a busy week this week - good luck!

Oh and a big hug from a boy who said he'd miss my lessons a lot.

That is so lovely!

And I rather like the idea of the 'goodest' t shirt for their English teacher! 😂

I wore it with absolute pride on the days of the exams.

I’m beginning to despair on geography, he seems very vague on what they actually did for the fieldwork…. Bit worried this paper is going to completely pull down his grade overall. He’s also more focused on chemistry which I get as it’s one of his A level choices, but think he could do with a bit more time on this one!

Same here.

DC sat looking at it with very glazed eyes. And that was the pre release pack. I asked him about field work… very vague answer about going to the local town and looking at sustainable development. Absolutely nothing concrete here.

babystarsandmoon · 11/06/2025 18:33

DD said maths was good.

One more to do on Friday and then it’s leavers before they leave at 12:30.

It’s tradition for the year group to meet up later in the day so hoping the sun stays around for them as they’ve picked the beach.

OliveWah · 11/06/2025 18:39

DD2 says Maths paper 3 Edexcel was "Alright, apart from the last 2 questions, which were hard, cos I hadn't seen anything like them before, but I had a go. The other 23 questions were solid though, and the circle theorem question was 'chef's kiss'" She's a bit sad that GCSE Maths is over, apart from Statistics on Friday (which she tells me "Does Not Count."), and she may do some more past papers over the summer, to "keep my Maths skills up, ready for A Level". I'm not actually sure she's my daughter...!

5 more GCSE exams to go for DD2, and DD1 has her final A Level (History, Parliamentary Reform) tomorrow morning. I cannot wait! (For exams to be over, not for DD1's History exam, I hope that was clear!)

Libre2 · 11/06/2025 18:48

After yesterday’s crash out DS had a massive wobble going in for maths today. He was terrified he was going to panic again and have to leave and/or pass out/throw up. I am so unbelievably proud of the way he handled it though. He went to the exam office and asked if he could sit in the smaller room and they let him.

He said the paper was hard but attempted most of it. He didn’t manage the last two but that seems to be a common thread.

Whoooo · 11/06/2025 18:59

My dd got some teachers Starbucks giftcardsand handmade cards.
A few cried 😊

QueenMabby · 11/06/2025 20:02

I asked dd if she was ready for FM tomorrow and she said “yes because it’s not an exam it’s a pastime!” I think she loves maths.

Does anyone else have “opposite” children? Both dh and I are lawyers and did humanities A-levels and law degrees. Both the dc are STEM children doing maths and science A-levels and (for ds) a degree (physics). It’s weird!

DS said Excel Maths Higher was ok,he snapped his set square in celebration this evening as no more maths -a pass dependent of course

Was this edexel igcse by any chance? DD gave similar feedback (and ran out of time too…) Biology is her least favourite science anyway so was a bit deflated.

My son said the same about biology
Especially paper 2

DS doing maths a-level and only has that left to do, said the other day, it’s not really revision, it’s quite enjoyable! Bit worried about tomorrow as all the core alevel topics left are the ‘bad ones’.
Think FM under control, DD has gone to hobby and not back yet and then love island so no more is being done tonight. Said she’s going into school early to revise with her friend though. No geography, just double maths for us tomorrow.

Whoooo · 11/06/2025 20:36

Dd says aqa maths was good
She's out tonight so no geography revision going on

My Dd says they get bridging units to do over the summer. I dont know if this is a common thing across all schools. For Maths it is to study FM if not already taken at GCSE.

ChannelLightVessel · 11/06/2025 20:48

@QueenMabby DD is a STEM person, whereas I did Classics, but XH is a doctor and is brilliant at Maths/Computing. DD and I both like languages, and we like discussing current affairs etc.

Yes sounds familiar, he doesn’t think they really did much with the data for their fieldwork, and is very unclear what they were actually trying to find out. He is generally pretty switched on, so it feels like it’s how the school did it rather than him just not having paid attention. I’ve gone through an old paper with him and brainstormed some ideas to try and help (I haven’t done geography since GCSE but did a lot of research methods stuff in my degree), so hope it was some help, it’s the first time I have really got involved!

Mine is weird enough to say he wishes he had been able to do further maths and he wouldn’t have minded the extra exams as it would have been one he enjoyed! He does really seem to love it, and is enthused about A level maths and further maths. I did maths to A level and was good at it, but chose other subjects over Further maths!

DataColour · 11/06/2025 21:02

DH and I are both chemistry graduates. I would say that neither DS nor DD have found their way yet in terms of favourite subjects at school. Although are both pretty good maths but not particularly sciencey I would say. Non academically, we are both sporty and so are the kids and DS enjoys playing the piano just like I do, but DD gave it up a year or so ago.

DS is very tired now and had enough and 2 exams tomorrow and chemistry the day after which is not one of his strengths (despite being a child of chemistry grads!) so a last push cramming session with DH needs to happen tomorrow evening....poor DS. It's just relentless, I feel so sorry for him, he looks so done in.

DD has really enjoyed further maths. She hasn’t picked further maths for A level but has just today sprung on us the idea that she wants to teach herself/get a tutor and learn it outside school as a 5th A level! On top of an already insane level of extra curricular commitments 🙄🙄

Crashing this thread with a question - any ideas for gifts for favourite teachers? Can't decide if wine/prosecco is appropriate? My DC doesn't want to give anything cheesy or personal 🙄 If there are teachers on here, what would you appreciate? Thanks!

I very rarely got anything and was always so touched even by a card or box of chocolates.

But what I would have loved I guess would have been Costa voucher (have big Costa habit which students would have known about), wine, black Bic biros, big mug for my tea (was always breaking them) and wine. Wine probs best avoided tho unless you know they are happy with it as of course lots of ppl don't drink.

DS1 wanted to give sthg to a teacher who really really helped him get his C in a subject he loved and we gave her a gift box from Lush – but again, he knew she would like this as not everyone would.

Big tin of chocs for the staff room always goes down well.

Pinkflower100 · 11/06/2025 21:48

What exams are on tomorrow apart from
geography? We don’t have anything tomorrow.

From reading here over the years bridging work is quite common for maths. As is a very early test on it, especially algebra.

Apparently it’s hospitality as well.
