I'm not sure that the topic DS has picked would be acceptable and has just told me that he has this assessment the Tuesday he goes back to school after half term, so there's no time to ask the teacher. I would appreciate help!

He wants to focus on the social impact of war. I've suggested other topics which are more doable but he really wants to do that one. I've advised him that it's too broad and he's agreed to narrow it down to one conflict. If he wants to do it, he will be able to masterer the material. He's bright and articulate.

However, I'm just not sure if it would be acceptable under any of the general topic headings. The closest one would be citizenship, I suppose.

I appreciate it is not a very manageable topic but is it one that would fall under the rubric?

I’m a teacher and teach to this syllabus. His topic is absolutely fine. The marks are allocated for structure, vocabulary, sentencing etc, expression and development of points including acknowledging alternative opinions. He will be fine with this topic.
We have students doing ALL sorts of topics, this at least should be interesting!
it’s worth questioning though what the teacher has said. Surely they must know what topic he has chosen? What were their views?

Thank you very much. That puts my mind at ease.

I'm not sure if he has told the teacher. He's a bit vague on the details. He was going to ask her on Friday but she was leading a school trip so he couldn't.

It’s a suitable topic. To access the top bands it needs a degree of complexity, which his choice will have and many struggle to access with more ‘manageable’ topics.

Thank you. That's reassuring.
