Hi everyone,
I’m trying to get a clearer idea of how the Sparx Maths levels (GCSE 1 to 5) correlate with their child’s actual GCSE Maths grade. E.g.
Level 1 – Practise the basics of each topic at a gentle pace. Ideal if you plan to take the Foundation GCSE paper.
Level 2 – Practise the basics of each topic. Ideal if you are aiming for the top grades on the Foundation GCSE paper.
Level 3 – Practise the basics and try some more challenging questions. Ideal if you don’t know which paper you will be taking yet.
Level 4 – Practise with some more challenging questions. Ideal if you plan to take the Higher GCSE paper.
Level 5 – Practise with the most challenging questions. Ideal if you are aiming for the top grades on the Higher GCSE paper.
My son is in Year 9 and currently working through Level 3/4 topics, but seems to be struggling in trigonometry and surds. He’s aiming for a Grade 7+ at GCSE eventually, but I'm finding it hard to know how well his current Sparx level reflects his actual abilities as he rushes to get the homework out of the way and doesn't watch the videos.
What Sparx level was your child consistently working at by Year 10?
Did you find the Sparx levels accurate predictors of their final grade?
How did you support them when they hit tougher topics like trig?
Any advice for keeping motivation up, especially when they start to struggle or rush through tasks?
He is dead set on doing a computer science degree and needs A level maths so it's really our main focus. He's being assessed for inattentive ADHD and is supposed to have extra time in exams but he doesn't always get it in class assessments due to the time constraints so it's tricky to see what his actual progress is like and where he needs support.
Thanks in advance!
