DD says tracing paper was available and always is, as the school don’t know what’s on the paper beforehand either. Which makes sense, I guess it still doesn’t make sense to make them ask for it.

Hoping someone on here will know - is it possible to log-on to a website to find out your GCSE results? My daughter was told my a friend that their cousin had done so, so now my daughter says it's what she plans to do - but what website I sked her? I don't believe this is possible, but equally don't know for sure. Surely if you could then lots of pupils would do this?

I've seen a news article about pupils this year doing a trial of an app to find out their results, but that they won't be available until about 11am on results day - why would they bother with this if you could just log onto a website to find out?

I’ve never heard of this. Some schools email the results out and I guess they might have a portal on the school website where you could log in with your own credentials and find out just your results? Might that be what they did?

Dd has learnt the translation as if it were a play script! She knows the structure of the exam well. It’s frustrating that the text changes every couple of years so finding practice questions has been hard. She did classical Greek last year so has had practice of the style of exam - at least it’s only 60 minutes!

I think the Literature paper should be 1.5 hours and the Language 1 hour...there seems a lot to do for Lit yet bags of time in the Lang.
Yes the structure is quite specific
Good Luck tomorrow!!

Fightingdragonswithyou · 15/05/2025 19:57

DD apparently "cooked" in the edexcel higher maths today.
She said it was 50/50 with people in her year liking or hating it.

Did anyone else do the OCR Higher paper? I’ve just been told it was interesting but DD no idea how she will have done. I think they switched from AQA this year so glad she didn’t do that one if it was harder than expected. I remember getting D in my maths o level first time I took it (early in y11) and the feeling if not having been taught what was on hand if it. Then went on to get a C in the summer.

@BellaI my DS did OCR higher paper - he used the words "pretty good" for most of it but he thinks he got a couple of 3 marker questions wrong. DS's school also switched from AQA early in year 11 and by the sounds of the posts about today's AQA paper might have been a good thing!

Bellyfat · 15/05/2025 20:45

Edexcel foundation maths today and found it really tricky. Had done so much revision, so wasn't a case of being unprepared.
My motto is pretty much 'a 4 is a pass', it's great if they do better, but passes are not achievable for everyone.

JaninaDuszejko · 15/05/2025 21:21

DD was pretty happy with Edexcel maths. She rolled her eyes at mewhen I asked about the tracing paper 'it's just to check' apparently.

DS said Excel higher maths was 'fine'... but he seems a bit quiet and deflated, in contrast to how positive & chatty he's been about the other exams this week 😕

Edited

Same here. It was ok, but was really happy with the other exams he's taken this week.

DataColour · 15/05/2025 21:35

DS who did AQA higher maths today said he needed tracing paper and had to ask for it, it sounded like he was not expecting to have to ask for it or to need it, not sure which!

How's everyone's DCs coping with tiredness? DS keeps saying he's tired for the rest of the day after a morning exam. He sleeps enough so it can't be that. Could be the hot weather?
I don't know how he's going to cope with 2 exams on the same day .

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 15/05/2025 21:46

DC sat paper 1 today (higher edexcel), came home and said he failed, he only answered 11 of the 17 questions and even then he was only confident he answered 3/4 of them accurately.

He said 4 of his classmates were crying, 1 had a full panic attack where he had to be removed and some just sat with their hands in their heads.

Friends mum has put in our group chat her son has came home and destroyed his bedroom and his Dad has physically had to restrain him, he needs a 7 to get into his sport academy and he feels his future his ruined. Normally a cool, hardworking easy going kid but he has had 8 exams this week with another tomorrow and we think he is completely burnt out.

Poor kids. Mine did the excel higher and is absolutely gutted. He was hoping for a 7 or an 8 and now thinks he’ll be lucky to scrape a 5. So down and trying to work out what marks he got. Thinks it’s probably under half. I’ve said if the next two papers are good he might be ok for a 7 but he’s not so sure. Really demotivated now.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 15/05/2025 21:50

Forgot to say also DS had Citizenship, thinks he will get full marks (predicted G9 and has had full marks for last 2 years).

CatsLikeBoxes · 15/05/2025 21:53

Another one with a DC who did Edexcel higher today. She got a 5 in her mocks, but in past papers recently was getting 6 and 7... She's been working so hard because she needs a minimum of 6 in maths for her A levels and she messaged me after school saying she was so upset, that she thinks maybe she only got 20 marks out of 80. She's really down about it. It seems pretty odd to suddenly change the format and get rid of the shorter questions where they can pick up some marks more easily.

groovylady · 15/05/2025 22:02

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend
Oh, that's terrible 😔
If its as bad as they all say, then the grade boundaries will be lowered.

groovylady · 15/05/2025 22:02

Dd is tired but ok atm...
She's having tonight and tomorrow night "off"

Hollyhedge · 15/05/2025 22:09

All this Edexcel maths stuff is really sad, poor child who trashed their room. Out of 3 papers you can still get a 7 if one not so good. DC had a bad paper 3 and still got over the boundary in mock. It’s not a nice position but I hope they can pick up and carry on to do their best. Very few children will not have a bad exam, most several.

TheyNotLikeUs · 15/05/2025 22:11

History Edexcel in the morning. I've been totally hands off as I dropped it in Y9 in favour of Geography.

DD says she does better on the 12 & 16 markers than on the 4 markers so she's been using Seneca to help with that. She doesn't find Seneca useful for Sciences and English.

ChannelLightVessel · 15/05/2025 22:14

Sorry to hear about Maths difficulties. We are relaxing with Eurovision currently, but have Latin Prose Literature tomorrow. DD stated she couldn’t remember any English poetry quotations, then reeled off about 50.

My DC also use this 'cooked' expression (but regarding Eng lit on Monday!). Any idea of its origins?

Goose is cooked?

queenofthesuburbs · 15/05/2025 22:25

Hopefully as lots of previously high achieving kids found the maths paper hard, the grade boundary will be lower.

TheNuthatch · 15/05/2025 22:27

DD sat edexcel higher maths and said it was easy, and finished it early. I'm a bit worried now after reading other comments. I hope she's done OK.
I asked her about tracing paper. She said it was available but they had to put their hand up for it.

groovylady · 15/05/2025 22:29

Dd says "I popped it"
This is a good thing apparently.
I don't understand the yooth 😬😁

I don’t think schools do this, but if exams were taken at a private exam centre then it’s normal to log in at 8am on results day to see the result. Maybe the cousin was home educated or taking an extra GCSE and using a private centre?
