21 for dd, plus her 2 x practical subjects that are done

newmum1976 · 15/05/2025 10:34

My DD sitting GCSEs “only” has 14 exams. The core 13 and one other, as her other subjects are all coursework/practical.

Oh that’s good. DS has 22 for 9 GCSEs (did one last year) and it feels v intense. Only coursework was PE and that was all school based

Happy to tick Maths 1 off.

TravellingSpoon · 15/05/2025 11:04

Joining the thread a little late but hoping from some moral support o get through the next few weeks.

DD has 21 exams, and is most worried about French and Maths.

She already has one GCSE in the bag as she did RE lat year.

groovylady · 15/05/2025 11:17

Welcome @TravellingSpoon

groovylady · 15/05/2025 11:18

Well...
Maths paper 1 will be done by now 😬

Tiswa · 15/05/2025 11:26

Yep DD is home - says it was odd different format to normal (edexcel) no shape questions and needed tracing paper. Was fine and happily answered questions just different to what she expected - lots of ratio questions as well

IDipYouDipWeDip · 15/05/2025 11:32

Just heard from my daughter about Maths, she said it was very easy so is now expecting the next 2 papers to be much harder. History tomorrow.

PalePinkPeony · 15/05/2025 11:32

God, just heard from DD re: higher maths paper 1 (non calc) everyone found it very difficult - kids crying all over the place she said it was horrible 😭 All the rest have been ok so far

groovylady · 15/05/2025 11:33

Which board @PalePinkPeony?
Poor dd :(

ChannelLightVessel · 15/05/2025 11:34

DD says it was the easiest Maths paper she’s seen, and fewer questions than normal. I hope she checked it well, and spotted the silly mistakes she’s liable to make.

Edexcel- the higher paper. And this is a grammar school too.

ChannelLightVessel · 15/05/2025 11:34

Sounds like we’ve had reports on at least two different exam boards so far.

Which exam board? Foundation or higher?

My DD is also doing edexcel higher paper and she said she thoght it was different to the practice papers. She thought there was less questions.

groovylady · 15/05/2025 11:38

I don't know much about the edexcel paper, sorry

DD has reported the same and I’m also hoping she checked it well. Hers was higher paper and school list it as Pearson which I think is Edexcel when I’ve looked online?

For lots to be in tears it must have been very different to what they were expecting / have practiced

Hopefully the other two papers will be closer to what they have been told to expect. I hate the idea of children so upset by an exam.

Yes definitely less questions and just different.
that is all I get it was just different to expected

Oh no, poor kids. Is your daughter ok? There are 2 more papers so plenty of marks to still get.

Oblomov25 · 15/05/2025 11:45

Well wishes to all, especially @ChannelLightVessel , take care of yourself.
I think we all need to congratulate ourselves (everyone on this thread) for coping so well in these tricky times.

Ds2 said geography was ok yesterday. its not his favourite subject, he can't wait for RE, spanish, geography and business to be over.
Hope maths goes ok for all today.

She has another exam this afternoon - she gave me only a quick text as they don’t use phones in school (locked away) not sure how she’s got it out.
Will find out later but she just said that it went badly, was difficult and lots of students in tears.

No study leave until after half term so I won’t hear any more until she’s home after school. She didn’t say anything about format / number of questions. Will see if she’ll say much more later or just be straight onto focusing on the next one.

Me too. There is so much pressure on them..
