What level of supervision is reasonable?

Ds4 is in year 7 and has just had major surgery 3 weeks ago. He must not get hit in the face until 6 weeks post surgery or the operation will probably fail and have to be done again. He has an ehcp with band 4 funding because he also has learning disabilities. He shares a TA with another child, with the other child having more time with the TA because he has more funding. This week he went back to school and he is not doing PE, leaving lessons early (with the YA and the other child), using the lift and spending break and lunch indoors. He also has a queue jumping pass for the lunch queue.

Today he went on his own to get the key to the lift and a boy from year 9 hit him on the back of the head! No harm done but it could easily have been different. School have now decided that Ds shouldn't go around school on his own and the TA is going to stay with him in between lessons.

is that enough do you think? I'm so scared of this operation failing and having to be done again. It was hard enough going through it once.

What more could they offer? They are suggesting he is accompanied in the corridors at all times.

I would think it would be enough to have the TA with him. Do you pick him up from school? Teenage boys often do some stupid things - once one threw a ball at my son's head as he was cycling along. They didn't even know each other - literally were strangers - and they weren't at school. If that happened it would be very bad luck.

If the TA is with him between lessons I think it's unlikely anything would happen though. The other option would presumably be to get work sent home for the duration.

If you are that worried arrange for him to be at home until all is well.

Thank you. Realistically I know that nobody is going to hit him when the TA is with him, it's just me panicking.

I understand how scared you are but it is difficult to see what else they can do. I assume if there was any kind of padding or headgear possible, the hospital would have suggested it.

Is there any option to keep him home and do work at home?
