Writing GCSE and tiredness

Hi all, my son starts GCSE's in May and when he gets home from school hes too tired. We were thinking of doing revision for 1.5 hors each weekday but hes too tired. Are we doing too much? Was thinking of taking him to school in the mornings rather than public bus to reduce tiredness maybe?

Any advice would be appreciated

What time is he going to sleep at? Is he actually going to sleep as opposed to up on devices until all hours?
1.5 hrs for GCSE revision is reasonable.

We?!?

is he not 15/16?

I think you may find it’s a bit late in the day to start thinking about revision if his exams start next week. Also sorry but if he’s tired, tough shit, got to get the head down at exam time (unless there are some additional needs or health issues)

Teacher here. I’d explore why he is so tired - what time does he go to sleep/ get up?

Revision works best in 20 min chunks - after that you stop assimilating and you need to change tasks. Would he find three half hour sessions work better for him over 3 subjects a night?

Why is he so tired? Most 15/16 yo can cope with a day at school and revise during the evening, even for short periods. Is he staying up late, getting up early, taking exercise, eating properly, otherwise well?

Hi I would as the parent focus on ensuring he gets good amount of sleep, eats well and yes drop him off / pick him up if you can.

you've got some good teacher advice above about breaking into time slots than one longish period of revision. it sounds like a late start on revision but don't give up!

Do what you can to make him as healthy, happy and as awake as you can.

Good luck

Stress makes people feel tired. I agree with the teacher about 20 minute chunks. Try the pomodoro technique. Good luck.

Why is he tired? That’s odd. Kids of that age should have plenty of energy provided they are going to bed at a sensible time and going to sleep. A school day is a short day in most state schools, he needs to get used to the longer day of full-time employment that is looming his way.

I suggest you switch the WiFi off when you go to bed and ensure he’s getting plenty of plenty of iron in his diet.

Leave him alone. He's going enough in school. Just make sure he attends all revision lessons provided by the school
