Mill Hill School for A levels or not ? Your experience welcome

Hi. I'd love to hear experiences of anyone whose child has started at Mill Hill in Year 12-13, in particular, their approach to a child with ADHD or other SEN needs. Could I get better here or not. At a good state school but they don't always have the time or focus because of big classes and lack of funding.

Big classes at A Level shouldn't really make much difference, everyone there is there because they want to and behaviour is generally very good and tbh any extra benefit it's often offset by the longer holidays private schools have which equal to less teaching. What are your child's GCSEs like? What do they want to do? That area of N London has tons of really really state good options for A Levels, aside from smaller class sizes what are you expecting to get out of your £30k a year? Is your child particularly sporty where they will use the facilities at MH? The trips? (Costs extra)
Also check those class sizes, my DDs friend is at Mill Hill in Y11 and my DD actually has smaller classes in her state school than her friend at Mill Hill. I'm sure that's different for 6th form as the intake shrinks but it's not a given, esp for popular subjects like maths etc. Not saying MH is a bad school, I just wouldn't go there for class sizes alone, I also don't hear much good about their learning support so I'd get any promises in writing before you commit.

What subjects does your child want to do, as there may well not be big class sizes at A level anyway. One of my daughter’s (state school) A level classes has just two of them taking the subject.

Child wants to do Geography Maths Business. In state school now and just assessing whether its better to move for more focused attention and pastoral care (for his ADHD) to support.

Thank you for sharing.

It’s not in Mill Hill but Hendon but if you considering private look at Brampton College. Both my DC went there (DD did arts subject and DS1 did maths/science. Classes are 6-9 kids. No facilities, paying for the amazing teachers and small classes.

If they're in state school now and you're planning on uni after, I think you'll be doing them a disservice moving them to private as it will effect how unis look at them and the benefits of Mill Hill (imo) don't justify that.

@MeridaBrave thank you - do you know what their pastoral care was for a child with ADHD.
