How to encourage child to revise without stressing them out?

My child is in Y10 with GCSEs next year. They are a diligent worker re: homework and school work, but will do what they have been told to do but no more. How much should I be encouraging them to put more effort in to revise work as they go along and make sure they really have a good understanding of each topic before moving onto the next at school (and how do I do that!)? I don’t want to stress them out, but know they have the ability to get good grades and it would be such a shame for them if they just cruised for the next year and then were disappointed with how they do. I’ve found some great websites with content, videos etc for them but they don’t seem that motivated to look.

I think getting them to 'revise as they go along' will be very difficult.

I would focus on 'make good resources for end of topic tests and revise for the tests'. That way they will get half their revision notes done, and learn how they best revise.

What guidance is your school offering? DS is doing Y10 mocks in 2 weeks. We’ve had revision topics set by his teachers and I’ve helped him in spreading himself across these and doing an hour per week night, half an hour per subject, last night it was maths and computing, some questions on a maths practice paper and watching a video on a computing revision website- the teacher has recommended the site and he is working through the topics she has said will be in the exam. Fridays off and more at the weekend. We did do a timetable but have adapted it, since a couple of subjects are after Easter, so he can spend some of Easter focussed on those two for instance.
I’m trying not to be a helicopter mum, but supporting him in doing the work and getting into good habits.
