RPE short or full course????? little bit urgent decision to be made

hello (previously ThisPerkySloth)

just got email saying due to DS low score (low 50's) on Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Nov mock. he will be expected to sit another mock in March to see if can achieve 60% or more and be put into full - if less then its short course.

OR we can decide to do short course now.

Is a short course a half GCSE? how does the grading work?

hope someone can shed some light or share their own experience as we need to make decision quickly due to deadline 10 March and needing to revise in time for mock - 19 March.

At this late stage I think he should focus on revising for his other 10 GCSEs and do the short course rather than divert revision time to taking the mock for the full course. RPE short or full is a compulsory GCSE at DS school.

thanks in advance

Short course is half a GCSE yes with half the work. Quite common for RS as a lot of schools make it compulsory. I would just do it if not planning to take the subject at A level and it's not a chosen option, then he can focus on the subjects he does enjoy and that are needed.

thanks that makes sense to me. DS won't be taking at A Level.

Seems too 11th hour to change track and start diverting more time to revising for a full RPE mock!

thanks for quick response, much appreciated.

As I understand it, the short course requires 1 exam and the full course 2. So two topics rather than four but the same exam papers marked in exactly the same way to the same mark scheme. If no A level then the short course is fine.
