Grammar school and sports

I want to know if there are any grammar schools that are sporty and not just academically strong. My son is smart but can not live without sports. We hoping to move to Hertfordshire (anywhere between St Alban's and Hitchin). Thanks

We’re nowhere near you so can’t advise on any specific schools unfortunately but the vast majority of grammars are quite sporty, you’ll struggle to find one that isn’t. DD went to a grammar where sport was a massive part of school life - any child who didn’t competitively play rugby or hockey was practically the odd one out! They also had competitive swimming, waterpolo, rowing, horse riding, tennis, netball, basketball, football, dance, cricket & athletics teams.

I'm not sure there are any grammar schools in that area, are there?

Grammar schools tend to more sporty than comprehensive schools.

Hertfordshire doesn't have any actual designated grammar (fully selective) schools. The schools in the SW Herts Consortium are all comprehensive schools with a cetain percentage of places allocated according to an academic entrance test, but precious few of them available to applicants from outside their defined priority areas.

QE in Barnet would be accessible from St Albans, but there is a lot of competition for entry.
