How much are your year 11’s revising for at the moment and when did they start it?

I think now is a good time to start in preparation for the exams in the summer but I’m getting some resistance! Only looking at grades 4 and 5 really. Predicted one 6 too. Interested to know what your year 11’s are doing now and there plans to increase going forward

45 minutes per subject, 2 per night apart from Thursdays and Fridays (football and gaming)! Same on Saturday and Sundays. I'm not policing the 45 minutes, that's what he decided to set himself. He only started in January after parents evening which was not great. Aiming for 4s and 5s with 2 6s on the wish list.

My DD2 has had guidance from the school that they should be doing 10 hours per week, so she is aiming for that (that includes 2x school intervention, 3x free periods and 2x tutoring) . It’s very refreshing to see more “normal” grades as targets. Predicted 4/5s here too, with maybe the odd 6/7.

Ds started in October because they had mocks in November. He's now doing about an hour a night, 2 hours Saturday and Sunday. He also goes to a couple of after school study sessions a week, and has a maths tutor at home one hour on a Friday. They have another set of mocks in March.

DS started Jan 2nd. Has a maths and English tutor fortnightly. Trying to revise a bit most nights but it is a battle (diagnosed with ADHD). Did no revision for mocks and results showed this. Is capable of 6s in most subject but needs to revise more to achieve this. School are putting on revision session after school which he usually attends. He just isn't self motivated and everything is a battle.

I like this thread! Expectations not too high and revision seems fairly attainable.
My DS predicted mainly 6s but getting mainly 4s and 5s due to non revision.
He is doing 2-3 revision sessions at school per week, apparently (according to him!) working hard in school, doing his homework (not a lot) and doing nothing outside of that.
He has cleared out his desk and sorted out his revision materials ready to start "sometime".
I'll be glad when this is over!

About half an hour a night.
Looking at 6s in English, higher in other subjects.
EXCEPT the school is massively damaged after last weekends storms. They are at home this week. Will see what the future brings. Might need a bit of a mind shift over the next few weeks.

Well before Christmas. Expectations are very high and guidance and prodding from school is excellent. Before the mocks, which finished last week, probably 3 hours a day, had a break last week, and now 1 - 1.5 hours per evening, I think, but it's hard to work out because the homework has a lot of revision smuggled in too. Let's say 2 hours per evening, 4 hours on Sat/Sun each.

Not sure predicted grades are massively helpful for every child if they are low and leave them thinking that they don't need to bother working because they're doing badly anyway. If your child is predicted 4's and 5's right now, presumably because teachers know how little work is likely to happen, wouldn't 6's and the odd 7 be possible with consistent work? Makes a nice choice of A-levels more likely too. What are the favourite subjects?

4’s and 5’s don’t mean little work for my child. Not everyone just needs to work and they can achieve high grades. Hard work can mean 4’s and 5’s for some kids. My child won’t be doing a levels as won’t get the grades for them so is looking at alternative courses.

Thanks all. I’m thinking perhaps an hour to an hour and a half a day may be the way to go. I must admit I’ll be glad when year 11 is over!

Sorry OP - I inferred that you meant your DC was predicted 4/5 because they’re resisting work, and could possibly aim higher if they worked harder than expected by teachers.

This is my child too. Working hard, but not capable of working 3 hours a day on top of school, as processing and memory issues make them exhausted. Grade 4s and 5s with a hopeful grade 6/7 in the odd subject, will be a great result. No A levels here either.

No. Child is resisting the revision but I’m not sure anything much higher is possible. You could be right but I doubt it. I think they need to do the adequate amount of revision in case but by no means am I expecting high grades. Thanks for your advice though.
