how to hack private school fees

First post on mumsnet - here goes...
Our only son is super bright and we're almost certainly going to send him to my husband's old school which is academically brilliant and fee paying.
We're not super rich and have been planning for the expense for years.
My question is: has anyone here used the stoozing principles of MSE and paid school fees on a credit card with 0% interest then balance transferred so our savings are earning interest while the 'debt' is accruing no interest.
I've done this before to pay off a car etc so I know it can be done.
But has anyone done this for years at a time?
Not looking for 're-education' about the morality of private school thanks, just any bright ideas about the above pls.

We can’t pay our fees on a credit card, only a bank transfer. Unless I’m missing something???

we don’t use private anymore but it was not an option to pay by credit card when we were there a few years ago, Given credit cards charge the recipient about 2% of the transaction as a fee I would be very surprised if any school allowed it.

We couldn't pay school fees with a credit card either

Can you pay on a credit card?

breathlessmahoney · 27/01/2025 17:59

Scholarship options perhaps but likely your child needs to maintain a certain high ranking place in the top sets for all subjects to maintain lower fee place/scholarship but am out of touch and not sure if these still exist

Same, credit cards not accepted by both DC’s private schools

Acc0untant · 27/01/2025 17:59

Most private schools don't allow you to pay with a credit card, they aren't allowed to pass the credit card fees onto the consumer and don't want to absorb 1-3% of each transaction themselves.

Surprisingly our school allows payment by credit card - except American Express - wish I'd known that before paying 3 years fees by bank transfer , in future I'll be collecting airmiles

Our school will only accept BACS, not credit cards
