If your child's school has a house system ...

... do they all have different coloured ties, or socks or badges, or ... what?

Our school will be introducing a house system this year and I'm wondering if uniform changes will be next. (Hope not, as they look perfectly smart as they are, and surely the whole point of a uniform is that it's uniform!)

Different coloured stripes on the ties for us

POTC · 22/01/2025 23:08

Some do, some don't.
Some have a pe top with a coloured band
Some have a tie with a coloured stripe
Some have a jumper with a coloured stripe above the logo
Some had one or more of those than changed to another
Some had none then brought them in
No way of knowing what yours will do!

They have house t shirts. DD has been there 2.5 years and gas never worn it, which is irritating as I paid for it.

Pinkl · 22/01/2025 23:08

Across three different schools we have had different coloured striped ties, house pin badges and coloured lanyards.

fanaticalfairy · 22/01/2025 23:10

T-shirt in house colours for things like sports day, house competitions etc

mynameiscalypso · 22/01/2025 23:11

Nothing at DS' school. The house captains get a badge but that's it.

Epanoto · 22/01/2025 23:13

Different ties at DS' grammar school. Also different coloured PE tops.

Different badges at DD's grammar school.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/01/2025 23:13

Ties.

AgeingDoc · 22/01/2025 23:15

Just a badge at my DC's school.

Temporaryanonymity · 22/01/2025 23:15

Different house ties. Different colour r-shirts for house sports competitions. That’s it.

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 22/01/2025 23:15

Different coloured stripes on ties here.
They used to do different coloured PE tops too, but that got ditched a few years ago.

2chocolateoranges · 22/01/2025 23:16

at my children’s high school they had a coloured pin badge for the lapel of every blazer depending on what group you are in . Only the house captains and vice captains in 6th year have wrist bands sewn onto their blazers.

StormingNorman · 22/01/2025 23:19

Different coloured t-shirts for PE and inter-house competitions. And, quite randomly, they felt the need for different coloured swimming caps.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/01/2025 23:28

Prior to the change in uniform costs, a whole new blazer, tie, shorts, PE top, jumper, bag and socks.

Hope that doesn't happen these days.

Lindy2 · 22/01/2025 23:33

No difference in uniform at our school. Everyone still wears the same.

Ifonlyoneday · 23/01/2025 00:05

Different striped ties here too

Blueuggboots · 23/01/2025 00:14

Different coloured ties, coloured pin badges, different coloured PE tops.

TheWoollybacksWife · 23/01/2025 01:06

In junior school - different coloured PE tops and a different coloured pin on badge for uniform.

In senior school - different coloured PE tops.

TickingAlongNicely · 23/01/2025 05:15

Just different planners.
You can move house as well, so I'm glad its not uniform. (My DDs whole tutor group moved in September as their tutor was "promoted" to deputy head of House.

DontNeedAnyMoreClothes · 23/01/2025 07:11

Just a little coloured pin badge on the blazer

MollyButton · 23/01/2025 07:22

My DCs school introduced a House polo shirt, not compulsory. But there were days you could wear it instead of shirt and tie. Also in summer (usually after it got hot) you could choose to wear it instead.
The year 11s would be in the "you can wear home clothes for exams" bit by then, so no real pressure on them to buy the polo.

JimHalpertsWife · 23/01/2025 07:23

Ours had a small coloured metal pin for their blazers which they got in y7.

By y8 everyone had lost them and people just seem to know

HippyChickMama · 23/01/2025 07:29

Coloured stripe on their ties, coloured lanyard, and optional to have initials on PE kit in the house colour. Captains and vice captains are given a coloured lapel badge.

Sprogonthetyne · 23/01/2025 07:30

I went to a secondary with houses, the prefects had a tie & badge in the house colour, but every one else was the same.

My DC's primary has zones split by year group (nursery/reception, Y1/Y2, 3/4 &5/6). Each zone has it's own colour which the polo's or summer dresses match. It a bit of a faff, and they all look a bit scruffy for the last term before a change, as everyone holds off buying new until the new colour, but it's not terrible.
