Books to teach Y7 maths and English

I'm looking for good Y7 maths and English course books, to keep my son up to UK standard as we live abroad. They need to have full explanations, not just questions for revision, as I will be going through the books with him and I'm not a trained teacher. I have come across books by Letts, CGP and Collins but without buying them, it's difficult to know which one is the most comprehensive. Is there a particular book that you recommend?

I would instinctively go for CGP, but that's because it's the brand I'm most familiar with, rather than any knowledge about the English or maths contents.
BUT if you search Amazon uk for each of those brands, followed by KS3 english/maths you can have a look at a few of the pages inside, and see what appeals.
KS3 covers years 7, 8 and 9.

I agree and would suggest CGP – MFL is my subject and I think the KS3 CGP books are very useful. Just had a look on Amazon at the English one and it looks pretty clear and does not seem to have advance expectations of knowledge of the curriculum.

English teacher here - we use CGP but the very best thing is just to keep reading as much as possible - fiction and non fiction.

A range of eras is good too - basically expose them to some Shakespeare and Victorian writing, even if they don't read the whole text.

BBC Bitesize is an excellent resource that can help you gain an advantage in the following year’s coursework if you excel in certain subjects this year.

That’s great, thank you, I’ll look at the CPG books in that case. Thanks also Suress, I haven’t heard of BBC bitesize, I’ll definitely take a look
