RGS Guildford - ASD

There are some older threads on this but wondering if there are parents with experience of RGS Guildford for boys with ASD.

DS is bright and well behaved, but I think with the step up to secondary, he will need pastoral support with friendships.

DH thinks there will be lots of similar boys there (not necessarily ASD but quiet, studious types) so I suppose my question is: what's the environment really like? How do the boys socialise at lunchtime and after school? Is it more for outgoing sporty types?

Grateful for any comments or PMs.

All I can tell you about RGS is that their v occasional discos in the 1979/80 times always ended with all the boys sitting on the floor, listening to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zep. Very very well behaved lads. If not a little dull. I doubt much has changed.

Thank you ... that is an amusing image!

Your husband is right… your son should fit in well. Pastoral care is excellent. Yes there are the sporty types but there truly is a really diverse mix of boys, but they are all bright kids.

I would say most of the boys I know from there are quiet studious types. I don’t see that many jock types around and I believe they don’t play football there? From what I know the more outgoing ones hang out with girls from GHS which is a short walk away. After school they’ll be in clubs or shooting home on the train. I see plenty boys out and about at lunchtimes at various cafes and shops, not behaving any differently to the boys from County.
