Music Scholarship - 13+

DS has been invited to audition for a music scholarship.

The invitation letter says ' He will be asked to perform two contrasting pieces on his first study instrument and one piece on his second instrument or voice. After the pieces there will be some aural tests and a viva voce (sight-reading, scales and arpeggios are not required)'.

His first study instrument is the clarinet, second is the piano.

Does anyone have any experience as to:

  1. what does the ' viva voce involve'?
  2. Would aural tests be usually singing and clapping exercises or can there be anything?

Would appreciate anyone's help/thoughts on this.
Thanks.

Might be a bit unhelpful but in academic circles a viva voce is the q and a session where the examiners can ask a range of questions about your topic of study or research. Given the information above I would be asking him questions about why he chose the instruments and what does he want to do in the future. I am sure that others have a better idea than I do and I look forward to reading their responses

As above - a viva would be an interview, basically - see this from Reading bluecoat.
