Year 7 (and older) Reference Books For Home?

My son is in Year 7 and his school don't provide reference material to take home which sometimes causes difficulty with homework.

The school say they use proprietary in house made materials and don't allow them out of school. Speaking to his primary friends at 2 other schools they are exactly the same. What has happened to text books? That's for another thread.

Since it's a UK state school I assume they follow the national government curriculum and so there should be generic off the shelf books I can buy when he gets stuck with homework.

Can anyone help with UK curriculum reference books for home that I can buy from Amazon for eg math, Science, geography etc?

The "geog." series are good for KS3 geography.
AQA KS3 Science Student Books 1 & 2.
Collins "Knowing History" (4 books) and "Knowing Religion" (7 books) KS3 series.
Citizenship Education for KS3 by Fiehn
All available on Amazon

In my son's school everything is online. Matgs on Sparx math, other things on Educake, GCSE pod and so on.

In their notebooks is exactly what the work on at the moment and what they should focus on.

Thanks all, super helpful. His school insist on paper and pen for homework with only Sparks online.

It's annoying as when I use google to help he says the school use different terminology so I am not sure if what I am showing him is helpful.

I've ordered some reference books from the local library and will see if these help as if the school insist on keeping material in the classroom then there's not much more I can do.

Excellent advice from @Parker231 - I use Google every day for work research! It's definitely a life skill how to search and understand whether what you are looking at is legitimate.

I always wondered the same, why we don't use standardised textbooks that follow the national curriculum here.(and I did not grow up here) They're great for parents to keep track of progress, promote educational equality, handy for review or homework, and serve many other benefits.
I also find it shocking to hear that textbooks are too costly to distribute to every pupil.. in a country considered so much wealthier than many other countries who give out textbooks every year, every subject for everyone. And then people who could afford to, go to bookshops to buy additional materials and workbooks. It's really sad.

We will always struggle to adequately fund education if we continue to elevate the health service to the status of national religion and prioritise it above all else.

Just explain that there is more than one way to do things. But also ask him for the terminology he remembers and help him to use it in the search terms.

Both education and health (and definitely social) care need significant investment - shouldn’t be one or the other.

In Sparx maths there is a huge section of Independent learning. In our school the teacher assigns the independent learning for a specific pupil after tests.
Also, White Rose maths ( paid) Corbet Maths ( free. Organised per topic) is very useful
