I'm moving back to London for Sixth Form - good idea / any tips?

We are moving back to London for my youngest to start a state 6th form in September. I'm out of the loop having moved out 14 years ago but now back working in London again. We plan to be in Ealing/Acton/Chiswick. Does anyone have any recommendations for my youngest (creatively minded) son? Thinking St Marylebone, W. London Free School.... I'm not sure how many we can apply to and if we will have an issue if not yet in London. Would really welcome any advice. Many thanks

There isn’t a centralised system for 6th form admissions so you can make as many applications as you want and even hold multiple offers. Distance is not always in the over subscription criteria, it is often more on subject availability and GCSE results.

My son was at WLFS, enjoyed it and did well. He moved up from the school and isn’t a creative type so can’t really make other recommendations for you with any depth of knowledge. If he is musically creative he will get priority in admission if he wants to study Music or Music Technology. If he is more into Art they do both Fine Art and History of Art at A level and seem to produce work of a very high standard.

You do need to start making applications ASAP as the deadlines are often Decemeber/January.

What the previous poster said. You'll already have missed the deadline for some - Esher College for example.

Thanks @Jaxx that’s really helpful. I’m in the process of applying. Noticed the forms don’t let you explain circumstances around not yet living in London. I’m going to email the school direct. Wondering if anyone has any other recommendations for sixth form in the West London area and beyond? That would be a great help - feel very out of the loop.

Twyford C of E High School in Acton has a very good 6th form with a good track record.

Sadly I think I’ve missed the deadline for Twyford.
