Went to Qe Boys Barnet, AMA

A tube passenger saw my Qe bag and wanted to ask about the school. It hit me that something like this might be helpful.

I finished A levels about 4 years ago and went to Oxbridge. I’ve recently started working at an investment bank.

“Not exactly a warm one to be the most selective school in the country for 11+ admissions, only to later chop a third of students at sixth form just to secure the ranking.”

The flip side of the argument is to give other pupils a chance to attend such a school, others who have worked very hard for their GCSEs across different types of school.

There's nothing wrong with working hard.

I’m not sure if your son attends this school or one like it, but dismissing every differing opinion and brushing off all criticism as 'envy' is definitely bitchy , Brickwall.

@Araminta1003 your style of debate is very erratic and you're indulging in several logical fallacies. I recommend the book "Bad Thoughts" by Jamie Whyte.

Well at least the ad hominem is now aimed at me and not the lovely OP.

Keep the ad hominem coming, you are all simply proving a point.

Brickwall

It is “brick wall”. At least get your own language right.

Please kindly cease clogging up this thread with arguments that have nothing to do with the original topic of discussion. As a genuine prospective QE parent, I came here looking for information and can see the last few pages have just been vitriol. If you have nothing constructive to say, please for the sake of the rest of the community, refrain from posting.

@catchastarx - I think it illustrates what high status this school really does have now, academically speaking, if the vitriol appears as bad as that aimed at the likes of Eton. So I suppose it means that much written online about the school does not reflect the reality and you need to go meet actual parents and do as many visits as you can, in person and speak to as many teachers as you can.

Pupils flourish, love to learn, read, are happy and ambitious, curriculum is broad etc etc. Recent Ofsted as well.

The brick wall remains deaf to any critique, preferring to bask in the echo chamber of its own illusions.

Araminta1003 · 11/03/2025 10:31

@catchastarx - if you know how to read the Ofsted you will realise there is a fair amount of legal debate etc, mock elections going on at this school. No wonder certain types are quivering in their boots.

nyv · 11/03/2025 10:42

Some stubbornly cling to the fantasy that enrolling their child in a highly selective school automatically equates to substance. Who needs actual growth or value when they can revel in the illusion of being proud contributors to the grand statistical DELUSION.

Hi there,
We have made several deletions already - might we ask posters on this thread to engage with the AMA rather than making personal attacks on each other?
Many thanks to those who reported.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/03/2025 11:43

As it would be entirely inappropriate for randoms to attend governing board meetings due to the nature of discussions, the requirement for DBS enhanced disclosure and SCR requirements - does that not mean that you're actually a Governor at the school trying to drum up some positive PR post National Offer Day allocations, rather than a simple ex-student thinking that maybe you could 'help Mums whilst on holiday' ?
