13+ entrance exam difficulty levels

Hi,
My son recently sat the 12+ entrance test @ Hampton Boys and unfortunately, he did not clear it. I cannot contact the school before 10th march to check how he fared.
We will also be trying for Whitgift, Trinity and Kings college for 13+ entry with exams due next November.
Any advise on how each of these schools rank against Hampton Boys in terms of exam difficulty, which one is easier to get into and how to prepare?

Thank you in advance.

@dearmummy2012 , where is your ds currently at school? Are they advising you if it's a prep school? Did your ds try any of these schools for 11 plus?

12+ and 13+ are difficult to gauge if you are not in a feeder prep or just missed 11plus and were advised to try again by the senior school.

Thanks @tennissquare . We put our DS in a prep school in year 7 as he didn't qualify for any 11+ grammar achools. Based on his ability, the prep school has advised Whitgift and Trinity for him. We never discussed Hampton as our choice because of the distance but wanted our son to use it as a trial. The school have also said that their school curriculum is enough for exam prep but given my DS hasn't cleared Hampton Boys, I don't want to leave it on chance. Is Hampton exam level more difficult than Whitgift, Trinity and Kings?

Generally - at 11plus entry, Kings is the hardest, then Hampton, then Whitgift/Trinity. The SW London grammars are somewhere at the Kings/Hampton level. I can’t comment on whether this changes for 13plus but don’t be discouraged!!

There are very few places at 12 plus at Hampton. For example my ds went to Hampton at year 7 and the 1 person who joined the class in year 8 had just missed out on a place and had been told by Hampton to reapply for 12 plus. I don't think it's an exam to base success at 13 plus at trinity and Whitgift on.
Go with what your prep school say.

Also obviously everyone peaks at different times but most of the year 7 entry at Hampton had the ability to clear the Sutton grammars too. Despite your ds being in a prep school now you have to go with where his natural ability lies or he won't keep up with the fast pace of teaching at Hampton or kings.
