Hi everyone, DD is unfortunately unhappy at her school-mainly due to friendship issues and teachers doing nothing about it. Are there any all girls schools with occasional places that actually come up? I’ve heard Queenswood is nice, but we have just missed the 13+ deadline.

Places that friends have had luck getting a place are:
St Albans High School for Girls
Aldenham
Abbotts Hill
St Helen's
I think all of these offer a coach service to various places in North London x

private or state?

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 04/12/2024 07:23

Single sex might not suit her?

SneakyScarves · 04/12/2024 08:30

Even if you’ve missed the deadline, I’d still contact Queenswood if you haven’t already to see if there’s a waiting list you can be added to and if you can arrange a visit. There might even be places available this school year with VAT starting next term. If you’re willing to move quickly (ie forfeit a term’s fees at your current school) it may put you in a better position to find a place - at Queenswood or at any school really.

State: QE girls

Private: Queens College or FHRP

coolmum212 · 04/12/2024 17:44

I’m not too fussed about if it is private or state as long as the school has a good reputation and pastoral care! :)

Thanks everyone!

Perhaps look at coed. All girls doesn't suit all. Girls tend to have more friendship issues, in a mixed environment they tend to mitigated a bit by the boys

coolmum212 · 04/12/2024 22:13

I appreciate the new insight on single sex schools, but i also worry about boys behaviour in the older years. My eldest DD fit in well with all girls and of course this will not suit everyone. Have been looking into Aldenham and it seems quite promising-especially the dance GCSE option!

Aldenham is coed. What about RMS?

coolmum212 · 05/12/2024 07:11

Thanks so much but unfortunately , RMS is too far and after spreaking to DD she said she would be a bit open to going to co ed. I suppose we’ll just have to try apply and see how it goes.

Contact Queenswood, they'll still consider you.

Tiredalwaystired · 05/12/2024 07:47

Have you looked at Bentley Wood in Stanmore? A bit more north west but might fit the bill.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 05/12/2024 07:49

I'd go for a smaller school with excellent pastoral care. Not just grades. Really grill them on the pastoral care.

If a child is happy and supported they will do well regardless.

London1305f · 05/12/2024 15:28

I hear excellent things about Queens Colkege these days. Think it’s quite a small school too.

coolmum212 · 05/12/2024 18:23

Thanks so much @Tiredalwaystired i have just looked at Bentley Wood and it looks good so just waiting for what DD thinks. How are the extra curriculars there? We have a family friend at Queenswood so I know she will be taken care of there. I will now try to contact them though so thank you for the reassurance! QCL seems lovely too.

So I only know about the school second hand as my daughter doesn’t go there, but some of her old primary school friends do and love it. But I DO know they have a spectacular glee club if singing is if interest. Beyond that my knowledge is a bit limited!

coolmum212 · 20/12/2024 22:11

Does anyone have experience of Queens Gate?

mesha123 · 09/03/2026 11:12

I am interested in knowing about any feedback about Bentley wood? I am considering an in year transfer and would like to know how other parents felt about the school.

Thanks

metalbottle · 09/03/2026 11:29

Worth enquiring of all private schools you would consider - numbers are down due to VAT so they'll probably be more receptive than a few years ago.
