Easy school library books for year 7

So my son has to complete a reading challenge as part of his transition to high school which involves reading 2 books from the school library. He really does not enjoy reading and is painstakingly trying to work his way through one of the Harry potter books after having started and put back 2 others as he wasn’t enjoying them. It just seems really long and at the rate he is going it’s going to take him forever! I’m just wondering if any one has any recommendations of a book a high school library is likely to carry that isn’t too long and is a straightforward read that he might enjoy. Maybe you have a child who is similar and enjoyed reading something in particular. I don’t have access to what they have in the library but can give him a list to look up.

Would he be better with a graphic novel? A lot of school libraries will have a graphic novel section he could check out. Unless it has to be fiction he might also prefer a factual book?

He could have a look at the Percy Jackson books, they aren't too long and pretty easy to read. Decent story and Percy is dyslexic so it's got a nice theme running through of academics not being everything.

Why not encourage him to go and talk to the librarian and ask for suggestions?

At secondary he needs to start taking responsibility for himself. That means speaking to librarian/teachers and asking their advice

Thanks for the helpful recommendation. I’ll suggest that to him so he can take a look.

He’s perfectly responsible for himself and doesn’t need any lessons in that just thought some people on here might have some good recommendations for him 🙄

The library may have a "quick reads" section - a tactful way of saying "shorter easier books".

He might like The Hunger Games. I've read it myself, it's an easy read, much less dense than Harry Potter. If he likes the first one, he can carry onto the next two.

Also what about

Wonder - AJ Palacio
Holes - Louis Sachar
