Ethics of religious state schools

OK - here's the scenario:

We are Christians and regular church attenders.
Both dh and I do not agree with schools selecting on the basis of religion.
(We did not apply to school X for a place for ds, and he goes elsewhere.)

But a job has come up at school X (which is a far nicer school than the one I currently work at).
Do you think it would be outrageous of me to apply?

No, apply if you like the look of the school and the job. You have made your stand on the selection point and I hope your ds is enjoying his school.

If you think that they shouldn't select for employment looking in part at religious grounds, then it would make it fairly hard for them to keep a faith school. It sounds as if you would be well suited to the school.

You need to read the school ethos and see whether or not you agree with it. If you do then go for it. This I think is for any school not just religious ones. I've known teachers to find it really hard to teach where they are as they dont agree with the ethos.

I agree with the ethos, and I like the idea of working in a school with an underlying Christian morality.

I also agree that it is appropriate for prospective staff and prospective students to sign up to this ethos.

But I disagree very strongly that students should be selected on the basis of church attendance, previous school, baptism, beliefs of their parents, etc.

I wouldn't have thought that belief would affect you being able to teach there as that is to do with the admission side rather than the day to day ethos.
