Hi! I know there are a few threads like this out there, but they seem to focus on grammar schools outside of London. I found this group really helpful a few years ago when my daughter was going through this process.

Where are you applying, how did you find the open days? Are you using Atom learning? What is your prep plan for the next month?

I have a son applying to - St Paul's, Kings, Latymer Upper, Emanuel, Ibstock, Hampton, Harrodian

I can't wait until it's over!! My DS will sit Dulwich tomorrow and then we'll wait for second round results. Why do they need to go into January. Wish they'd get it over before the break.

DreamyDreamy · 06/12/2024 13:17

How was Dulwich @Sass22 (and others?) DS came out saying it was ‘easy’ but it could be just that he was relieve the creative writing was only 15min as he doesn’t particularly enjoy it.

DreamyDreamy · 06/12/2024 13:19

Now an afternoon off before Kings tomorrow morning! Anybody else sitting this one?

Wlondon14 · 06/12/2024 13:23

@DreamyDreamy we will be there!

Did anyone take the Thomas’ College exam this weekend? My DD was quite deflated afterwards, she found it hard to know what to write in the timeframes and said they were waiting around for ages

Apologies for dropping in late on this... just found the thread, and decided I should start contributing rather than just lurking quietly.

My son did this as well, and really hard to gauge how it went. I know the school said before they are different, and they don't want children to prepare. However, admirable as that may be, the sort of questions they were posing were so different from what people have been learning (for years in many cases), we found we did need some prep in terms of getting him to thinking differently, and just get his thoughts on paper. How well did he do? Who knows? Hard given it is the first year of assessments to know what they are really looking for, so will just have to wait and see.

Other ones for us... Kingston Grammar, King's College (exam tomorrow), Epsom and Halliford. Will be glad when this whole tortuous process is over! 😂

Wlondon14 · 06/12/2024 23:20

@tw9mum @Sunnyside12 what!? I was expecting next week. Nothing here. When did it arrive?

Wlondon14 · 06/12/2024 23:21

@tw9mum ah ok. I won’t keep refreshing!

My DS said Dulwich went better then he thought it would. He also does not enjoy creative writing so 15 minutes was a dream.

Thanks for replying! Yes I cannot wait for this to be over. Do you know when Thomas’ are sharing results by any chance?

TW11dad · 07/12/2024 10:01

@TwoInARow2020 I think it's next week. Their admissions guide say that the interviews will be "early January", and that invites will be sent before the end of the autumn term. So not long now.

Morning!
I have a yr6 DD. It’s been an intensive term!
I don’t see many girls schools parents?
Anyone have know what sort of pre-interview materials Surbiton provides for round 2?
thank you!

No materials at all, I think. They discourage any form of prep.

My son just sat it.

TrueBlue2024 · 07/12/2024 14:53

My son just sat it. How did yours find it?

Wlondon14 · 07/12/2024 14:57

@TrueBlue2024 @DreamyDreamy my son said the Maths was very easy, comprehension challenging. VR was ok. What did yours say?

Ah, interesting. Mine said Maths was challenging, VR & Creative Writing easy, and Comprehension so-so. He did, however, complain that the exam hall was freezing cold! Do you know when they’ll announce the results??

Edited

Mine said it went well and was straightforward. He did not finish the last math question though.
