Hi,
I am bit concerned and would appreciate your experiences regarding grammar school admissions.we got our dd’s 11 plus result last week and my dd has been ranked within the top 150 placed students in one of the top grammar schools, how likely will she get her place if she puts this particular grammar school as her first choice?

Surely it depends on what the intake number is?

Reet271 · 20/10/2024 11:44

@spanieleyes Yes only 150 places available for 2025 intake

If they take 150, and she's in the 150 then she will get in. Or am I missing something ?

Assuming you know where in the 150 she ranked, I would find out the school's policy, e.g. by looking at their published admissions policy or finding out statistics from previous years. For instance, if they give precedence to siblings of children already at the school, a child who scored 140th probably wouldn't be offered a place, but a child who scored 10th probably would. Distance from the school may also be a factor.

Your child's primary school will probably also be able to advise you, based on their knowledge of what has happened to previous pupils.

We can't really say without more info, because it depends on the school's admission policy. If it's just the top 150 with no distance, sibling etc priority then she will get a place. But many schools also apply other criteria apart from just exam score, so you need to check.

How would anyone know if they don't know what the particular schools admission policy is!!?

WheelieGo · 20/10/2024 13:21

Normally a higher number of pupils then their intake get an ‘eligibile score’ say 200 for 150 spaces. As a number will not accept the place.
of they only told 150 they have an eligible score and they have 150 places they would end up with under the intake as some will go to other schools - hopefully that makes sense!!

@SkywardKids11PlusCourses I also guessed that @Reet271 might be talking about Pate's in Gloucester.

@Reet271 if it's Pate's, she is guaranteed a place at Pate's with that ranking if it is her preferred option.

If it's a different school, either read the admission criteria for the school or, if you can't understand the criteria or can't be bothered to check it for yourself, please specify details of school etc. and someone might be able to help.

@SkywardKids11PlusCourses @LetItGoToRuin yes it is Pate’s ..thank you all for your inputs.

How do you know if your DD is placed within the top 150 students ? I thought they never give you that information.

Reet271 · 21/10/2024 20:12

@ RsR2024 yea they sent me an email on 14th October; the email read my Dd was ranked within the top 150 placed students,

Oh ok . I guess they do it differently in your county. They do not give this information in west midlands. Just your individual score and you apply for various schools.
