Grammar School Options for Students in Maidenhead

I would like to know if students from Cox Green, Maidenhead are eligible for admission into Slough or Langley Grammar Schools.

Based on my research,

  • Sir William Borlase's Grammar School (Marlow) includes part of Maidenhead in Catchment B, specifically areas like Bath Road towards Furze Platt and Pinkneys Green.
  • However, areas on the other side of Bath Road, such as Cox Green, Boyn Hill, and near the railway station, are outside Catchment B.
  • John Hampden (co-ed) and High Wycombe Grammar School (girls) cover all of Maidenhead in their Priority B catchment, and I am aware of some children gaining admission there, but I am unsure about admissions to Slough or Langley Grammar Schools.

In summary, living on the other side of Bath Road (Cox Green, Boyn Hill, Larchfield, etc.) falls outside Sir William Borlase's Grammar School's catchment.

In case it's important, John Hampden is a boys school, not co-ed

Your research is all correct, and I know lots of Maidenhead kids who go to the Wycombe grammars. However, I also don’t know whether Slough grammars are an option. It’s an interesting question. Maybe this could help? kidsmartapp.co.uk/slough-consortium-of-grammar-schools

Don't forget you have Burnham Grammar aswell - nearer Maidenhead than Slough / Langley.

Slough has 4 grammar schools which have a single consortium exam.
Each school has its own admission criteria.
Langley Grammar has two cachement areas,if you don’t live in them then there’s no chance of a place. It’s the opposite side of Slough to Maidenhead so you may be too far away for LGS.

St Berrnards is a Catholic grammar but does offer some places for Practicing Another Faith children who get a highish score (you need a form signed by your temple/imam/vicar/similar. No faith= no place)

Upton Court GS and Hershel GS both offer score based places so yes you can get into those if your DC scores highly enough but be warned competition is fierce: there are 6000 applicants most years for the Slough grammars and only 700 or so places. Passing with 111 is not enough if you live in Maidenhead.

I suggest you look at each of these school’s individual websites as the admission criteria change every year.

Actually, it’s unlikely you’ll get into Burnham Grammar from Maidenhead any more:
Maidenhead is out of Bucks and out of BGS cachement area (which is Bucks only and a tiny sliver of west Slough). There are no score based places in Bucks Grammars, it’s all on priority and distance.

Last year unless you had a staff link, sibling link or Looked After Child, Burnham Grammar only gave distance places to 2.06 miles from the school (and it didn’t get bigger on second allocation.) So Historically kids got in from Maidenhead but now it’s only siblings that seem to.
