Moving DS to physical school

Hi there,

My lovely DS (12) has been educated online for last year as he is academically bright but acutely anxious, easily overwhelmed and almost certainly ND. He's loved online school but we feel it's time to work towards transitioning him into a physical school, so he doesnt turn into a pumpkin! Local secondary is giant and he still has the trauma of trying to navigate it in Y7.

Would love any feedback on independent secondaries in S/W Yorks - he's practical and loves DT/Food Tech, but hates team sports. He's academic but hates the pressure of achieving. He struggles with sensory issues specifically relating to clothing and acoustics.

Can you think of a school who could support us to help him thrive? Currently the list includes Birkdale, Silcoates, Ackworth, Huddersfield Grammar and Westbourne.

Thank you

I've heard some good things about Westbourne. You should also check out Pocklington School. I've not had direct dealing with either school but have friends with kids at both school and hear positive things.

Penistone grammar it is a big school and has high expectations but has sen section (heartspace) that can bridge the gap.

I sent one of my dc to Silcoates. He was really struggling ( probably undiagnosed sen) in a bigger school and absolutely flourished to the greatest extent possible there. They have a different head but i would be surprised if the ethos has changed. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

i think ackworth would also be a good shout.
