Replacement GCSE Certificates

My twins are soon to be 18. I can't find their GCSE certificates. We have their print outs from results day. Will they need their original certificates? It looks complicated and expensive to replace them and even then, they just seem to issue a certified list of results.

I am still required to take my original certificates to job interviews (teacher)- 37 years after I did GCSEs!!! My husband reckons he has never needed them!

Grateful for any advice.

I think they are needed. I have managed to misplace both my DS’s GCSE certificates (have DS1’s A level certs though!) I may have to bite the bullet as I’m sure DD1 needed them for uni in some way.
Obviously as soon as I do that they will reappear in the ‘safe place’ I’ve put them!

Firstly, did they actually go and pick them up from school?

And yes they will need them. Prioritise English and maths certificates which will be the two employers and educational institutional places will want.

I had to scan mine in for a course work is paying for despite having A levels and a degree already.

Thank you for replying.

I've got a horrible feeling I put what I thought were empty envelopes in the recycling bin. I now think they had the certificates in. Feel like I've looked everywhere!

Yes. We went to an awards do and collected them.

So, if they need them and the gov website says you can't get replacements, what do you do?

Get the Certified List of Results it's the same thing / treated the same.

It's better than paying £30 a certificate that my DBro had to a years ago.

I still have mine 25 years on. How can you lose them?

What a silly comment.

My son had to show a copy of his GCSE English Language certificate when he started university. Some employers will ask to see them as well.

Update!
I've found the certificates!!! I am organised usually (mine have been safe for 40 years almost). Had a tough year and just put them somewhere and forgot. So relieved. A word of warning: for two kids (twins) it was going to cost £500 to replace them (so many different exam boards). I think it is silly that with so much technology, we have to keep these paper certificates for 50 years or more. I'm surprised mine haven't turned to dust!!!!

Thank you for the posters who helped. Smile
