Tiffin Girls Autumn 2024 Exams

My daughter recently sat the Stage One exams for Tiffin Girls 2025 entry in Y7. I guess we won’t know until 15 October if she’s through to the next stage but I’m hearing quite a difference in experiences as between the Tiffin Girls and Boys’ exams so far and wondered if anyone had any insight into that? The boys have (purely anecdotally) had easier papers. My daughter felt she did pretty well but had no time at all to check her Maths answers at the end and didn’t fill in two questions. No idea how bad that is?!

Indeed, thank you, missed the end of the email. From the email, my understanding is final rank will be 60% English stage 2 only; 40% maths (stage 2 vs stage 1 maths is 3:1) which means 30% of maths stage 2 result and 10% of maths stage 1 result.

It's the same paper for both schools

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the original poster for their insightful contribution to the discussion surrounding the Tiffin entrance examinations. It is indeed a privilege to engage in such a meaningful exchange of information within this esteemed community.

I would like to clarify an important point that may be beneficial to those navigating the application process for Tiffin schools. Specifically, it is my understanding that the stage 1 entrance examinations for both the girls' and boys' schools are, in fact, identical. This alignment in examination format serves to ensure a consistent standard of assessment across both institutions, reflecting their shared commitment to maintaining high academic standards and fostering an inclusive educational environment.

For parents and guardians considering the Tiffin schools for their children, this information could prove invaluable. Understanding that the same examination will be administered allows for a more streamlined preparation process. It provides the opportunity to focus on a unified approach to study, thereby reducing any potential confusion that might arise from differing exam formats for the two schools.

Furthermore, this shared examination format in the first stage underscores the ethos of the Tiffin schools in promoting fairness and equality among prospective students. By establishing a common assessment, the schools strive to create a level playing field, ensuring that all candidates are evaluated based on the same criteria, regardless of which institution they are applying to.

I sincerely hope that this clarification aids in your understanding of the Tiffin entrance examination process. Once again, I would like to extend my gratitude to the original poster for facilitating this discussion, and I encourage further dialogue among community members. Sharing knowledge and experiences is invaluable as we navigate the complexities of education and the choices we make for our children.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,
HelpfulPoster

That reads like a lot of ChatGPT. I’m told that they weren’t the same - the boys one had fewer questions than the girls!

Kaff83 · 23/10/2024 17:34

Has any of the boy parents received further details of stage 2 exams yet? They said we should have heard timings etc by tomorrow but we haven't received anything yet. I'll email tomorrow to chase as instructed but just wondering if it's just us!

We have not received anything either....it said by oct 24th we should receive...which usually means they send on the 24th.

Sunnyside12 · 24/10/2024 12:11

Still haven’t received anything for Tiffin (boys) stage 2. Guess it will be later today.

I am filling in CAF for entry into year 7 Sep 2025. I have put choices as Tiffins girls and Nonsuch girls for my daughter. I got email from eadmissions stating I need to fill in SIF (Supplementary Information Form) for Tiffins girls and Nonsuch Girls school. But I cannot find that form anywhere. Also I saw in the information brochure that the registration forms we fill in for stage one for Nonsuch and Tiffins girls are same as SIF. So does this mean we do not have to fill in another SIF after submitting CAF? Thanks.

Sunnyside12 · 28/10/2024 07:52

@manjiri - yes, for Tiffin the SIF is the form you already completed to register your DD for the exam.

So glad it's finally over! What were your daughters' reactions? My daughter had mixed feeling as didn't manage to finish the English comprehension paper.

11plus2nd · 10/11/2024 08:53

Mixed feeling here too as didnt finish maths( last question and no or very little time to double check). A comprehension sectional question was not answer and didnt finish the writing as she normally does(just ended it when time was up). We still have the Indies to go.

Proudmumofonly1 · 10/11/2024 12:37

@11plus2ndmy daughter said that the instructions stated they didn't have to finish the creative writing, so fingers crossed 🙂

We may need to consider some Indies too.

Secondaryspectator · 10/11/2024 21:40

My daughter said English comprehension was very time constrained and last question was for 10 marks. And she didn’t write for 10 marks. And unfortunately English has lot of weightage in second (around 60 percent). Seems like lot is expected to write

11plus2nd · 10/11/2024 23:03

Was there a mark for writing. It such a shame for my daughter as writing is her biggest strength usually.

from whatever my daughter said, 20 marks for creative writing and 30 marks for comprehension.

kagurazakamum · 11/11/2024 08:21

There are latter sitters to the test for different reasons, I suggest not to add too much info just yet that will put your DDs to a disadvantage.

manjiri · 11/11/2024 09:24

@kagurazakamum I was not aware that there are any latter sitters. Do you know why this is the case and how many approximately we can expect as latter sitters?
Thank you

Proudmumofonly1 · 11/11/2024 10:04

@kagurazakamum thank you. Sorry, I didn't think about it.

Sunnyside12 · 11/11/2024 10:14

@manjiri - there will be a late sitting for anyone who was ill and therefore couldn’t attend on the day of the test. They also had this for the Stage 1 tests about 7-10 days after the original exam (this was for the boys school - we know a kid who had to do the late sitting). I don’t think they allow a late sitting for anything other than illness though.

MysticMole · 12/11/2024 22:37

Sorry not to catch up sooner! My daughter got through to stage 2 and sat the exams recently. This time she finished the Maths easily and didn’t quite finish the English.
Best of luck to everyone ☺️

My daughter got through to staff two so just waiting for 3rd March! She has offers from the other two (private) schools to which we applied so we are trying to work out what to do if she gets a Tiffin offer. If not decision is clear. Best of luck to everyone waiting for a decision 🤗🤗🤗

I am looking for a tutor for my DD to prepare her for 11plus exam next year. Does anyone know a good one around Walton? I am not sure online will be efficient, so prefer in person.

manjiri · 28/02/2025 10:48

@nvtn
my daughter went to Oxbridge Uk classes (New Maldon, Sutton centers and online too) for 11+ and for English creative writing she did classes (virtual on zoom) from Richard Grey (Crystal Tuitions) which was really good. Hope that helps. Good luck

nvtn · 28/02/2025 10:57

@manjiri thanks a lot. I'll have a look at those for her.

Yeah, we got in 2nd round. Does the first round count toward the end results. My daughter had the last math question unanswered( out of time). The English test was good.

Hi
My daughter sit the exam 2025. May I know the maths and English format please?
Some parents said, in English stage 1 is more than one answers in multiple choice . It's true?

Thanks in advance
