Hi, we are looking at AESG for our eldest who will be in year 7 next September. she is currently at Stockport Grammar Juniors, which she loves, but we don’t think the senior school will be the right place for her. (She is dyslexic but is very bright, and she has problems with spelling and some slow processing).

We went for a tour today and were shown around by the marketing manager, rather than a teacher, although we got to speak to a few of the teachers.

We don’t know anyone who has daughters at AESG seniors, so if anyone could share their experiences of the school and the admission process, I’d be really grateful. It’s such a big decision!
Thanks!

I have a bright child with processing issues who is thriving there. There are mixed opinions, as there are for any school. Admissions are generally straightforward and the entrance I think is more to assess where they’re at.

My daughter is at Alderley too and is flying. She is bright, but a huge school wasn’t the place for her.
The school is small enough for the girls to feel secure and the pastoral care is excellent. New head teacher started in 2024 and she is doing a fantastic job. Academics look on point too. The results speak for themselves considering they are not (hugely) selective.

My daughter sounds very similar, and would struggle with a school as big as SGS with 8 forms in a year group. We’re confident that it would be the right environment for her, and really only heard positive experiences. We’re slightly anxious about the entrance exam next week. She’s been doing well on the practice papers, but difficult to gauge if she’s doing well enough!
