Maths in K3 England, lessons are quick cover of topics follow by self taught and watch videos, is this normal?

Is this the normal English way of teaching K3 maths: a quick cover of topics follow by self taught by watching videos on how to solve maths problems? In US, lessons are going over a few problems and teachers explaining. The homework set is covered by topics taught in class. Pupils’ questions answered in US, not going to after school Maths clubs for answers and homework set can cover sections not taught in class. Just wondering if style is that different.

Doesn't sound right. But I've read on MN that there are shortage of maths teachers in UK, maybe something to do with that?

My DD is in KS3 in England. I don't believe she is watching videos in class: the content is taught by the teacher. Pupils are 'picked on' (my DD's words) to answer specific questions in class. Homework is relevant to the current lesson/topic.

I think @noctiscaelum is probably right that the situation you describe is a consequence of a shortage of teachers.

Are you from the US and do you have a DC at school in the UK? Has your DC asked friends in other maths classes at their school whether their experience is the same?

Do they use sparx maths? If so it has explanation videos as part of the learning. Some teachers do a mix of traditional teaching and sparx lessons on the computer. This is also the set homework in a lot of schools.

Not my child's experience of KS3.

No, DD in KS3 hasn't experienced this either. She's taught in the usual way, no videos. Sparx

Sparx used for weekly homework.

Does sound like a teacher shortage issue
