Support Thread for parents of Year 11 who are not doing revision

I'm on the general support thread for Y11 and it's great but I wonder if there is an appetite for a support thread for parents whose kids are not doing any/enough work/revision for GCSEs.
And maybe some ideas about how to coax them into it.
DS is fairly bright and will probably pass them all without doing any work (his plan) but I am trying to encourage him to aim a bit higher and to get closer to what he is capable of.
He's not sure what he wants to do next year, which is not helping.
Is there anybody else out there?

What a good idea! I feel a bit lost in the very organised threads too (good on em, but I can't relate too much!).

Mine has a PPE tomorrow and we will be revising...tonight. He'll probably be fine?

Yes, this sounds more like our situation! One thing I found useful was to take my daughter to an open day at a local college. She was saying there is no point in revising as the college takes anyone. We went yesterday and she realised she hated it! So now there is a reason to work a bit harder so she can stay at her school sixth form. (I’m not saying there is anything wrong with local colleges, it just wasn’t what my daughter thought).

Yeay - I'm not alone!
I don't want to force DS down any direction but I am trying to get him to understand that better grades equals more options in the future.
So while local college (also being talked about here) will take him with five 4s (or even three 3s), in a couple of years, he might be glad to have a 6 in English and Maths and take another pathway.
I'm not worried yet about the no revision, but his attitude to revision generally is quite concerning, he doesn't seem to see the point of it.

Joining for support as well! I'm sure DD will easily pass well but she wants the top grades and without working it is looking not feasible at all.

Just need to reassure you all, it is super early for most kids to revise for GCSEs, some Y11s are still learning the GCSE syllabus in some subjects. My Y12 left revision until late, probably starting only a month or so before the exams and they still did well. They got the grades they needed to study their a levels easily.

Hello
I need this thread. Thank you.

Be assured that as long as they attend school, do homework and revise from Easter they will be ok. They do not need to have parents on their backs so early, it's likely to be counterproductive. Regular school really is the key, but I did buy the cgp revision guides and leave them strategically on the coffee table

Syllabi won't be finished until next Easter

Glad to see a few people on board.
We have mocks directly after half term, which is why I am already talking about revision. DS has decided that mocks are to see what he doesn't know and seems to want to approach them blind. I guess early mocks does have the advantage of it not being too late to turn things around.
