Please start a new post mentioning the schools/area you're interested in.

Otherwise lots of people like me that live 100+ miles away will waste time looking at it.

Good luck.

Where do you live? I have a similar y6 child (though no diagnosis or EHCP yet). Prendergast Girls school (SE4) and Hatcham College (SE14/SE4) reportedly have good pastoral care and enhanced transition for children with similar needs. They have a huge amount of extracurricular, particularly Hatcham College (you can find more info on their websites). I would also explore Sydenham Girls (the state not the private).

I have heard mixed things re Kingsdale despite the strong extra-curricular and have ruled it out for my child after speaking to a parent of a similar child now in year 11.

I have been told the two Charter schools in North and East dulwich are poor on extracurricular though the former is ok with SEN.

Does anyone have idea how to get the local authority to pay for independent school for a child with ehcp . Although I know they would prefer one to use state school instead mainstream state but my daughter prefer jags girls

In my experience, LAs will only pay for independent provision if it has explored every other option first with no success. Generally, these are independent specialist schools which meet needs, they won't pay for a private school just because you like it!

Sandysoles · 28/09/2024 07:32

The La is very unlikely to pay. Some are even backing tracking on previous agreements to pay.

If your DD is super bright and likely to pass the jags entry test, you could apply for a bursary (if you are on a low income). Is this a possibility? I know a child on a full bursary as the mum is a single mum paid less than 30k.

CraftyGin · 28/09/2024 07:44

You need to speak to the prospective schools and they will tell you how they can access your DD's EHCP.

Have a look at Canbury School in Kingston. You may feel that it is too small, but tbh, most kids have your DD's profile. However, they will be able to give you solid advice on using the EHCP.

You also need to understand the extent and specifics of the EHCP.

I live in Southwark (London) and am looking at Laretraite Roman School in Lambeth, any other school suggestions please, I don't want to go too far from home
but then. I see that Laretraite has got turns of extracurricular activities which would be beneficial for kids with needs she is highly function autistic, and she has ADHD. social and emotional needs too.

thanks @CraftyGin the school looks nice but then is an independent school which i cant afford it

Over 70% of Canbury students are fully funded via their EHCPs.

La Retraite sounds like a good option - caters well for girls who are both high achievers and those in need of SEN support. Why not contact the school and see if you can arrange for a visit? Or they have an open morning on Thursday 10 October. Not sure why you need to submit things in a "few days"? You still have enough time to visit schools before the CAF deadline of 31 October.

Perhaps also look at Burntwood School in Wandsworth?

GertieN · 29/09/2024 19:47

What do you mean “she prefers JAGS”? Why on earth would you encourage her to consider a school you cannot afford, it seems pretty cruel.

Given the adhd I would look at a state comprehensive where they are used to dealing with a cross section of the pupil population; most comprehensive schools are more about development of the whole child rather than academic hot-housing. This would also probably help your child become adjusted ready for working in the real world and develop realistic career aspirations (rather than being surrounded by kids who all want to be surgeons or lawyers).

FlowersOfSulphur · 29/09/2024 19:50

Have you thought about Limpsfield Grange in Surrey? It's a small state secondary school, catering exclusively to autistic girls (must have an EHCP, which your DD does) who are academically able but struggling socially, with anxiety etc. They have a wide catchment area (not just Surrey, iirc) and also offer boarding facilities for a few nights per week, if desired .

Karenola156 · 29/09/2024 22:47

thank you so much i will check the other school too

@Karenola156 if you report your first post, you can ask MNHQ to change the title to “South London schools for DD - EHCP question” or something

Karenola156 · 29/09/2024 23:25

@SheilaFentiman thanks, I will do that
