My daughter, y7. ..just been offered a place at Camden school for girls....we should be happy but...she just settled in the present school, (she was 1 week at another secondary, then moved here,)an academy, where she has many friends and colleagues from her primary school, her brother same school, very close...walking distance, it's also a Good school....in CSG,she will be alone, we must take few stops underground or take 2 buses.... it was our 1st choice...we just don't know what to do....Will she adapt? Is it possible she will not like it? She is a very sensitive girl, always lisen to rules, never made any problems...

Oh no, don't move her, her current set up sounds perfect.

CSGCSG · 24/09/2024 20:41

I think her current school would have to be pretty bad to consider a journey of two buses. Two stops on the underground seems slightly less bad but there aren’t any underground’s near CSG so she’ll have to walk up from Camden Town. That’s a lot on a cold wet day carrying your PE kit.

Why was it your first choice?

What does she want to do?

roses2 · 24/09/2024 20:41

Tough one! Would you regret it if you don't? CSG is very sought after.

Changing schools early on is better than doing it later as they haven't really formed friendship groups yet.

What are the academics and extra curricular like at current school vs CSG?

Frostycottagegarden · 24/09/2024 20:43

I'd leave her where she is if she's settled

CSG is a great school and a few stops on the tube isn't a long journey at all (I'd take the tube over 2 buses even if buses are free). It's only the 4th week of September so I think it's still early enough to switch, she could be there for 7 years after all. Personally I think it's good to have a fresh start at year 7 and having too many friends from primary can be a hindrance. Single sex schools are better for girls, and academies are often overly strict, CSG is more liberal yet still gets great results.

Keep her where she is; you may regret moving her. Not everything is results. Journey doesn’t seem great, underground at pick times a nightmare for year 7; or 2 buses no ideal either

OP, have you read this thread about turning down a year 7 CSG place this Sept ?

It's not bad, it's also "Good"Ofstead, my son is happy there,it's an Academy, it's about 2 bus stop until underground and then 5 stops underground.... 1st choice because of the good results...but she says she is not interested in Latin, classics....she doesn't really have a favourite subject

I mean, I'm sorry if we have to turn down the offer, but I see she is happy here now, said in the morning she doesn't wantbto move, she hates travelling by bus, as she gets car sick, ; the Academy she is now is a Good school by Ofstead, also good results ( well, not as good as CSG ,but good), al lot of clubs...she already wants to try 3 PE clubs, and take part in a musical. ..

I'm thinking...how come so many turned it down already? She was about no 20 in her band, when I asked at the start of the year, that's why we thought we don't have chance and decided to move her, from another school that really wasn't hood, to the present one....

Can she go and visit before deciding? Do you feel comfortable naming the current school in case other mumsnetters have feedback on it?

It's an area where a lot of kids go to private school. I won't be surprised if many of those offered a place took up private and just didn't bother telling the state school they weren't coming.

A 10 min bus ride followed by 4 stops on the tube is the exact journey my Year 7 child does, it's not an issue at all.
