DofE physical section

Ds wants to do running for the physical section. Does he need an assessor or can he upload his running log to eDofE as suggested on the website? He's confused and late with completing this part. He's also not sure who he should ask to be the assessor if this should be needed. Can anyone whose dc has done running or other physical exercise for DofE advise?

Record your activities on a programme log. You week can use the one below or create your own. You can also track your exercise on a smart watch app or on Strava and upload screenshots to eDofE.

I know a few kids who've done running as physical for DoE. As well as uploading their log, they do have an assessor who signs it off - they've variously asked adults involved in running club or other sports clubs, ParkRun course director, school PE teacher.

Is there an adult who knows they do some running and can confirm for DoE?

Thank you @WhiteNettle does the assessor have to be someone involved in sports?

If yes, perhaps she could ask her PE teacher or the PE teacher from her primary school. We don't know anyone personally who is involved in sports in some sort of semi official capacity🤔

And how often doe assessors need to sign the log? Weekly or monthly?

In our experience, the young people get someone (parent, sibling, teacher) to initial on their logs. This bit seems like it doesn't really matter. Maybe ask the assessor to initial once a month or term or whenever makes sense?

The important bit seems to be that The assessor fills in the online form at the end of the period when they've done it all. It's worth chatting to them in advance when you start. Then in my experience they tend to have a short chat with kid at the end of the period. Kid says "I did running twice a week for the last 6 months and got fitter and did <whatever>" and shows them the log and they write a nice paragraph in the online form.

I think it's supposed to be someone who knows what they're talking about and knows the young person. Current or former PE teacher should be fine?

My kids have struggled to find someone for a few things, but form tutors and school teachers have usually been helpful.

Hi
For my DD's DofE she recorded weekly walks on Strava, which had to be signed off by an assessor who knew her.

DD created a spreadsheet summarising the Strava data. Our neighbour is a lawyer and kindly did it for us. DofE like a couple of paragraphs 'Report' from the assessor. I basically ran it through Google Gemini and she signed off on it.
