Where do you live?

Stevie77 · 11/09/2024 12:32

It's for grammar school entry, for those that either didn't pass the 11+ or anyone looking at an in-year transfer. You'll need to contact the relevant school to get info on what exam they use.

HRTea · 11/09/2024 13:01

Yes there are private schools that offer 13+ places with a year 8 entrance exam - either as part of a standard intake process (usually linked to Common Entrance) or for occasional places despite the majority sitting the ISEB Common Pre Test.

Clearly it will depend what schools you're interested in, where in the country you are etc etc

He passed every test he took for grammar and private at 11+ level but he know wants to take another test to ensure he stays at the top levle.

Your latest post makes no sense. If he passed every test at 11+ then why does he want to sit for a 13+ place?

TheRainItRaineth · 12/09/2024 19:23

The sought after boys' schools in London usually operate an 11+ process for entry at 13. Did he take these exams since your son wants a top level school? If not, why not? Maybe if you could be clearer about what you are actually looking for that might help. Which school does he go to now, and where is it that he thinks taking a test in Y8 might help him to go to?

Mumooooof1 · 13/09/2024 19:49

If you can read I said 'ever test he took'.

Entrance exams don't keep anyone "at the top level" - they do what they say on the tin, give a score which may (or may not) lead to the offer of a place.

All other exams are specific to the school, until GCSE.

So is your DC the older of a conditional offer, or what?

He passed every test he took for grammar and private at 11+ level but he know wants to take another test to ensure he stays at the top levle.

Do you mean that he wants to go to a school other than the one he is at currently, or due to join in year 9, or that he just wants to take the 13+ entry exams to prove again how clever he is?

(Sitting back now and waiting for a response similar to that already bestowed upon a couple of previous posters, but another one here not really understanding the 'why?' here, so hey ho).

Westminster School has The Challenge www.westminster.org.uk/admissions/scholarships-and-bursaries/

3WildOnes · 13/09/2024 20:16

Your post isn't clear. If he passed the 11+ at every school he applied to then did he not take up any of these places? Or are you saying that when he took the 11+ he didn't apply to the most competitive schools and he now wants to 'trade up' as it were?

Charming. Nice way to respond when asking people for help.

Mumooooof1 · 13/09/2024 20:46

Yes exactly that. He just wants to prove himself again.

You are extremely rude.

It is not at all clear what 'he wants to stay at the top level' means in this context.

If you can explain yourself clearly, I expect somebody can help you. At the moment it's extremely unclear what you and your son are looking for and why.

I am absolutely wearing my glasses.

What a waste of everyone's time.

Surely there is something more useful he could be doing?

AnotherNewt · 14/09/2024 21:02

The best way for him to prove himself is to ace the exams he will be doing at his school, plus extra things like the maths challenge.

Not wasting time on entrance exams for schools you have no intention of moving him to.
