If your ADHD child did well in primary, how did they adjust to secondary?

My son has combined ADHD, lots of issues at home but he hasn't needed any intervention in primary school but suspect high school will be different (I can't imagine him travelling around the school getting to lessons on time without constant prodding for one thing!) I'm applying to high schools but not entirely sure what I need to look for in terms of ADHD support? What kind of things does your school offer that helps with ADHD? He's not currently medicated.

What helped the transition?

I had the same worries about my son getting to lessons on time etc when he started in comprehensive school, but he did extremely well. The schools help the year 7's with their organisation skills. The head of year in my son's school told me she had around 60 pupils that struggled with the same. I also spoke to the head of year prior to my son starting in the comprehensive school. I also bought a keyring with a digital clock on it and put it on his school bag, which he told me was helpful on his first week.

Medication is the only thing that has really helped - and picking a school that leans to the liberal and relaxed.

DD really struggled at secondary compared with primary. She's also severely dyslexic and very high IQ.

Dropping MFL and taking a BTEC in place of a GCSE has helped as fewer exams and less to have to manage.

I scaffold for her - lots of reminders, lots of alarms, apps etc. Prep everything night before. Laptop for everything (less to forget/lose).

Endlessly remind teachers she is SEN.
