Year 8 in-year transfer (within the same borough)

My daughter has just started year 8 today, she has been deeply unhappy at the current school (girls comprehensive) since day 1. There has been bully issues, isolation by most people in the form, we did try to speak to school but they are not doing very much about it. On top of that, the academic side hasn't been great either (previously outstanding school but standard has dropped signficantly with current headteacher). Therefore I figure changing school is the only way ( we did request change of form, but were not permitted).

I have been putting on the waiting list by the council but that is all i know. Have been trying to call school (on our waiting list ) but the answering machine said council deals with the transfer not the school, To be honest, i am getting really desperate , seeing a major change in my daughter's personality (was a happy and bubbly girl prior to joining this school). And i simply have no idea how to move this forward or make it easier for her for the time being. Does anyone have similar experiences and/or can suggest how I speed up the process?

Thank you for reading thus far!

So you need to apply to the school you want her to move to and once you have a refusal letter (because they are full) you can appeal and set out your case at panel. X

So basically task council or school for appeal form now, you have a legal right to appeal and you should have been told that. At appeal you don't need to employ anyone fancy, just go and unapologetically set out the issues and let them hear the impact on your daughter. Set out why you think new school would be different and why you want if.

Thank you , thismummydrinksin,

Does an email saying there are no spaces in any of the schools (we can fill in up to 4) and you are now on the waiting list count as refusal? or will there be another communication?

Thank you! This is so helpful. We can definitely come up with a long list of reasons.

Good luck x

I would stress you need to set out the reasons why her current school isn't working for her but as the appeal is for the new school you need to convince them why they should admit your child and go over PAN so things like she has friends there, it has good pastoral support.
