The Holt v Luckley House School

My DD will be going to secondary school (year-7) in September 2025. She has an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). So, believe we would be able to continue with the EHCP at The Holt. She is not appearing for any 11+ exams, but we are considering The Luckley House as a back-up option. Keen to understand from parents in this group as where do they think children will be happier. Have not been to Holt's open day yet, but have visited Luckley House. Liked the small setting there.

Any suggestions or experiences that could be shared with respect to those 2 schools?

The Holt is a state school and Luckley is a private school. Quite different settings.

The Holt is an excellent all girls state school and Luckley is co ed.

Personally I would go private. But depends what your preference is.

Check if there is an exam or deposit for Luckely (there used to be)
We know children that have gone to both and did well/enjoyed their time.
Some of the other schools in the area are perhaps better known for SEN provision but are large and have less of a malory towers feel!

Thanks Jellyslothbridge and clarkkentsglasses.

Had made up our mind to get DD into Luckley House. She's been preparing for the CAT-4 test (not sure what the level of difficulty of that at Luckley is - for admission to Year-7). Apparently, they also have a presentation/creative writing et al. Have registered and trying to find the details of the admission test.

The Holt School admission policy was almost a chance discovery for me....and it says that it prioritises girls with ECHP over the rest of the applicants for Year-7. That sort of raised our hopes that the EHCP, which has done wonders for DD, could be carried over to The Holt. But the actual execution of EHCP in the school is what I am not sure about. Have booked a visit to Holt in October.

DD's EHCP is not for medical support or learning difficulties - it is more for emotional support in a more social setting like classrooms and playgrounds. Till date, DD has had 1-to-1 support in her primary school. And that has worked quite well. She's very happy in her current school (can't wait to start Year-6), where the 1-to-1 support will continue.

Please do let me know if these details (as above) further helps to formulate your advise. Look forward to your kind responses.
