Hi all
Dd had gcse results today, mostly good. She’s done really well mostly!
Drama - distinction
History - 8
Eng lit - 7
Eng lang - 7
Religion studies - 7
Science - 7/6
German- 4
Maths -4
So, she’s enrolled at college to do English language and History but needs to sort her third one as they won’t let her do biology or psychology with less than a 5 in maths so she’s gutted when she should be thrilled.
Has anyone got any advice on possible 3rd choice with this in mind? She was only 3 marks off a 5 so we areasking for a remark too.
Thanks in advance 🙂

That’s interesting, is that just business where it’s the equivalent of 2 , or all BTechs? good luck to your daughter @HarryLimeFoxtrot .
History is the one she’s most excited by, it’s the only choice she’s not wavered from.

Depends what type of BTEC (a BTech is something different :) ) you do.

National extended certificates are equivalent to 1 A Level
National diplomas are equivalent to 2
National extended diplomas are equivalent to 3

If she likes history so much, she'll probably like sociology. My DS has used masses of his sociology in his history degree.

Does that work vice versa @Piggywaspushed? Asking as DD loves history gcse but really fancies sociology at A level (she’ll need to move schools as not offered at hers for gcse or A)

If definitely ask the college again if they’ll consider her for psych. She did well in science which shows decent maths skills. I did classical civilisation and loved it.

Doesn't seem to as much, no! Mainly because his history A level focused on quite old stuff but his NEA was quite sociological. I don't think a history A level is as useful for a sociology degree as sociology is for what he does in his history degree, largely because of his knowledge of various theoretical perspectives and theorists.

They do go together well, though.
