WJEC GCSE Equivalent Grade Help

Hi,

Can anyone help please as I am going round and round in circles online trying to work this out!

My DC got a L1D* grade in their WJEC Performing Arts Tech Award (5639QA) and I am just trying to work out what the equivalent GCSE grade would be for that please?

I found some historical info online that said it was the equivalent of a grade 3, however, on my DC’s results slip there is a Points column and this has a 5 in it for this exam.

In the Points column for all their other exams it matches what they got in their GCSEs. For example, in Maths there is a 4 in the Grade column and a 4 in the Points column, for Drama there is a 5 in the Grade column and then a 5 in the points column etc.

TIA

I've been struggling with the WJEC but for Engineering, found this online:

How do these qualifications compare to GCSEs?
Vocational Awards and Certificates have been designed to complement GCSEs and other Level 2
qualifications. They span Levels 1 and 2 of the National Qualifications Framework. Level 2
qualifications are broadly equivalent to GCSE grades A* - C in terms of demand with Level 1 being
broadly equivalent to GCSE grades D – G. However, it is important to remember that no two
qualifications are directly comparable given the differences in content, structure and assessment.

My son just had *1 under Grade with a score of 179 so I'm not sure if this is even a pass as it doesn't say L1...! Why is this so confusing?

Level 1 is below gcse pass level.

Thank you, I thought it would be!

@Looblou72 I have found WJEC to be the most confusing out of all the exam boards!

@LIZS Thank you. I thought that was the case but the 5 in the points column confused me.

It doesn't translate exactly over which is the problem.
The range of grades starts at L1 Pass as the lowest then you can get L1 merit and distinction then L2 pass, merit & distinction up to a L2D*
I teach a subject examined by WJEC and also a BTEC which is graded the same way.
A L2 pass is like a 4/5 at GCSE. It is the minimum we aim to get for pupils for as most colleges want a L2P as a minimum. However some are working below L2 level.
L1D is below that and is a 'pass' as in they haven't failed but is like a grade 3/4.
It goes down to a L1 pass which is still a grade but similar to a 1/2 GCSE grade.
