Moving from private to state: Can I apply with two councils?

I have two DDs at a private secondary school. With the VAT, I can no longer afford private for both. I can keep one at private but it would be unfair. So it would be a painful decision for me to move both of them to state. I cried for a few nights already.

I am paying council taxes at two councils, one for my own house (A) and one for another house (B) where my parents are living but my family is also living there a lot of time. Can I apply for state schools through both councils to increase the chance of getting into a better state school? If council B offers a better school than council A, we will move to house B permanently.

You apply through your local council but can apply for schools in 2 different counties, however you can't use 2 addresses. You have to use the address you are actually living at and will need to prove that you actually live there. No-one gets 2 bites at the cherry.
Your local council will have all the information about how to apply & what proof of address you will need on its website

Yes your application is based on where you live, which can only be one place iyswim.

You can apply for schools anywhere tho. Is this an in-year application or are we talking about an application in Oct for year 7 next Sept?

If it's in-year, just contact your local councils about any schools that have spaces that you would be happy with. You may find your choice is limited tho.

I think a better approach might be to research the schools in both locations, decide what you want and then pick the location that best suits your application.

You need to determine the primary residence and apply to all schools based on this one address.

My LA will often seek evidence pertaining to the address they are registered at with a GP and for child benefit.

I meant to say, for an in-year application, how close you live is not relevant really - if there is a space (ie school has no WL) you can have it.

Where your address is relevant is if you accept a place somewhere but hope fir a place elsewhere via the WL, bc that will be offered based on who lives closest.
