How did/do Y12 mocks compare to final results?

Obviously, very individual but would like to hear others' experiences.

Dd just got B,C,D in her mocks which isn't awful but she's hoping to apply to universities that required ABB.

She's disappointed as she's done worse than in previous Y12 exams (and her GCSEs) and feels that she revised.

I would say that she did revise but not very strategically or 'smartly'. The C was in a subject she's been getting As in on past papers, so she's a bit down and confused.

Seems she'll need to get better at something if she wants to get predicted grades that will get her any offers from where she wants to go.

TIA

What subjects? I think for English/humanities you tend to see continuous progress as it's more about honing your skills and the "new work" is on breadth by introducing new material/content rather than complicated concepts.

For STEM subjects, the content iand concepts in Year 13 is harder and standing still in terms of grades represents actual progress iyswim.

My DD improved a grade between Year 12 exams and Year 13 mocks and was predicted (and hopes to get) a further grade higher in her actual A Levels. She's taking English/humanity subjects.

DS (taking STEM subjects) dipped a grade between Year 12 exams and mocks and then made it up again for the real thing.

If your DD has been getting higher grades in class work, it suggests that it may be her exam technique that needs work. I wouldn't compare to GCSEs that need less rigour.

She's doing English Lit, Biology and Sociology. She really enjoys biology and had been getting As in past papers and got a C. She gets As or Bs in sociology and wants to do this at uni. She's not been that engaged with English, although got 8s at GCSE, and good at writing, so I think it's probably exam technique.
