School Blazer for very tall boy

TooTallBoy · 14/06/2024 18:49

I have a 6ft 5in year 10. Uniform is proving tricky but I have managed to locate 36” inside leg trousers. Getting a blazer with the necessary school logo is proving a nightmare though. Any recommendations?

Their uniform rules, their problem to find one that goes past his elbows.

I gave up on the blazer. It was halfway down his forearms, but not my problem. Shirts staying tucked in was a problem, poor ds was constantly tucking them in and getting told off about it

Ask the school to identify which of their approved blazer suppliers provides one suitable for your son's measurements. Alternatively, ask them to provide you with the embroidered badge and you source a blazer that fits and tack it on in the appropriate place.

Yeah I would ask the school for a badge or ask their advice.

Ask on the shop which sells the blazer for the details of the factory. They may be helpful by selling you fabric and logo if they don't want to make one as an exception

Thanks all. Have tried all the recommended suppliers and they are way too short. Badges not available, have enquired with school about just wearing a black suit, they said no. They suggest he just gets one that is a few sizes too big and looks messy. I might try to unpick and alter one?? Can’t look any worse. Roll on 6th Form if he keeps growing.

It seems unfair that the school is effectively requiring your son to wear clothing which obviously does not meet his needs. Might the school reconsider if you frame this situation in these terms? If not, could you (or better, he - learning adult life skills in the process) unpick the end of the sleeve and add some extra fabric in a similar colour / texture? Or if not explicitly prohibited by school rules / uniform policy, turn the alternation into a feature using contrasting colours?

6ft5 is tall, but in any multi form entry secondary, there will probably be one in each year. This is something the school should be able to help with.

If yiu have any old blazers that aren't being handed down to younger siblings, could you take a badge from there? Or ask on a school social media group if anyone has a blazer that is not usable any more?

Longdueachange · 15/06/2024 07:43

Agree with above, get a second hand blazer and remove the logo. Ask on a local fb page if anyone has an old blazer spare. Our school ask for leavers to donate old uniform.
Have a look at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-uniform/school-uniforms. By law school uniforms must be inclusive and there must be uniform complaints procedure.

If it is going to be long enough in a bigger size I'd just do that. Plenty of boys will be wearing a blazer that isn't their chest measurement for the length, or vice versa. It's what happens with a single supplier and no short or tall sizes.

kidsfromfamenyc · 15/06/2024 08:17

DS was 6ft 4 in y9. We just got a blazer with a bigger chest size and it looked OK. Not too massive.
